Movie night

We're watching a movie one of the nights, right? (I'm too lazy to rifle through posts right now...) I know I offered to bring the screen, but who's bringing the movie and projector?
Finally time to start doing all the last-minute fun stuff.
See you all soon!

I think you're safe Neil. I've always found beer to be a religious experience, in any vessel.

Better Directions??

We are planning on coming up the 5 as far as Visalia area and I googled directions to Cassini from there. The route was 580, toll bridge and the dreaded 12, anybody have a better idea??

It all stinks

Visalia is east of 99! unless you got sumthin goin on there I would stay on 5 to 580 around Tracy, then 680 at Pleasanton up thru concord/ walnut creek get to 37 around vallejo pass the race track to 101 northaround San Rafael, then north to River rd just past Santa Rosa west from there to Cazini. But thats just me.There's no good time to pull thru bay area traffic unless it's dark, then you got that to deal with. I'll be leaving Lodi and travelling the dreaded 12 to Fairfield. So SEE you there. one rally one thread, the directions were off the top of my head! DG

Leslie,

If you can get to the 5-580 junction by say 1pm, then my recommendation would be to stay on 580 the whole way thru Pleasanton and Oakland and across the Richmond/San Rafael bridge to 101. Then it's a straight shot up to the Russian River. Get an early start to get thru the traffic near the Bay just after noon and the going is a lot easier than more circuitous routes.

Another tempting route is 580 to 680 to 780 to 37 to 101, but when we were thru there about 8 months ago, the construction around the bridge at Martinez made for very long, frustrating delays. Perhaps that has changed now. You might want to check with CalTrans on the web for updates.

There is another interesting possibility if you don't mind two-lane highways. That would be staying on 5 until you pick up 12 near Lodi. Then take 12 west across the Delta area to Napa where you hook up with 116 to Petaluma and 101. It may look tempting to take 29 thru Napa Valley but the road at the north end beyond Calistoga isn't for the timid. It's quite doable though if you take your time and enjoy the ride.

In short, there are all sorts of ways around the Bay and what might seem to involve the tedium of bumper-to-bumper driving can be avoided by getting here before the rush hour that starts about 3pm. Then, the shortest routes in terms of distance can also be the quickest and easiest.

Hope you've got a GPS navigation system in your TV.

Bad news for us

I have to be at work on Saturday. I have tried everything to get out of it but no go. So we can't go.

We have a great space with full hook ups in the main area. Anybody want it? Let me know.

I know I warned everyone about using 12 but to me route wise it's the best way around Bay Area traffic if coming from the south. We are north of 12 so we can go east on 50 then 80 to Vallejo. 37 to 101 will be our hard part. We are going to try to hit that part as early in the day as possible.

Hi, call in sick; You know the dreaded "Silver Influenza" is going around now. Not to mention "Aluminitus". Only treatment is to leave town.

Routes to Casini from I-5

Please Oh Please DON'T try I-580 through Hayward to Oakland and over San Rafael Bridge from I-5 unless you're planning to do it at 10 AM or 3 AM... Heading through Oakland and Berkeley and over that bridge during morning rush hours in SF Bay Area (6AM through 9AM) or evening rush hour (2 PM through 8PM) is just going to be maddening... The easiest route is going to be Hwy 12 west from Lodi to connect with I-80 west, and then exiting I-80 west onto State Rte 37 from Vallejo to 101.. For most of its run, Hwy 12 is two lane and 55 mph and relatively straight and level... It's a better road than they show on the map.

And unless you enjoy swerving to avoid idiots, narrow pavement and turns tight enough to read your own bumper stickers, DON'T take Hwy 116 from 101 through Petaluma to Guerneville.. Going a few more miles north on Ste Hwy 101 to "River Road" exit west from Santa Rosa area will be faster, smoother and straighter...

Absolutely, River Road is the way to Casini from 101. Car navigation systems tend to suggest 116 because it is a so-called highway, but the reality is anything but.

Conversely, I don't believe that 580 is anywhere near as scary as people suggest as long as you pass by between the morning and afternoon commute. Check the map. The distances aren't great and the traffic moves along at the speed limit or better. Sure the rush is congested, but at other times the many lanes quickly disperse the traffic and increase the speed. There is a little congestion at the merge in Emeryville but it is short lived.

Without looking at a map I can tell you that your 'best' route is I 5 to Highway 12 (Lodi) west (a good 2 lane road but lately a rash of head-ons) to I 80. West on I 80 (I should look at a map here but don't have one) to Highway 37 west (Vallejo) to 101. North on 101 to River Rd (just before Santa Rosa). West on River Road to Casini. The I 5 to 12 will take you around the Bay Area traffic (it is a mess) then most, I stress MOST important don't take 113. It is narrow and windey. And do not travel Highway 1 with a trailer. It is a very pretty drive but you won't see the view for focusing on the road and the side of you rig. I'm sure others will offer their suggestions to but this route will get you around the Bay Area and AVOID 113.
I hope I haven't confused you.......too much.
Neil.
