New Aviator

I've been helping the vinyard owners grandson learn how to fly. Today was his first successful solo flight, 10 minutes of solid flying. Check out the grin! And to top that off we got "mare watch" going on 24-7, looks like I'll be posting pics this weekend of a newborn colt! What a great life. DG

A Gentleman.

Lynn, and I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Doorgunner today. Tim PM'd me that he would be in Placerville on Saturday. We asked him over to our home and had a most enjoyable afternoon of Airstream chatting. After he left, Lynn, said "A very nice Gentleman." Ditto.

I only met him for a short time at the San Antonio Lake rally - I concur with your assessment. He has been helpful to me on more than one occasion here on the forums as well.
Of course, gentlemen can have fun as well.....just ask the deputy...

Sorry, Tim - I had to

The first paragraph really is true.
Come to think of it, so is the second.

Just a regular guy

I blame it all on my parents! Thanks for the Placerville Pacifico's Neil. I had a very enjoyable time visiting with you and Lynn. Still waiting on the "mare", seems as they have a window a few weeks either side of 11 months 11 days. And humans complain about 9 months, suck it up ladies! And another thing- The Chicken Kitchen CLOSED today! Actually retired, some of you will recognize the sign- only 5 miles from the vinyard, guess I gotta give KFC some business now. Took a few flics- you all know I like picure takin, maybe this will get Kevbo aroused. And John, I got the temp dinette and table in today, Double L mandated that, yikes Notice--- No wasted bandwidth with my posts. ha DG (dilligent gentleman)

Tim, Congrats on your 500th post. It couldn't have been a better post than for old Pollardville. When we lived in Stockton, me 1969 - 1978, and Lynn grew up there and our kids born there , (Stockton not Pollardville!) Lynn and I were very active in photography and members of different camera groups. We got to know Neil Pollard, a nice fellow, as we scheduled a few regional camera club seminars and meetings there. It was a fun place for photographers. Also Lynn and I went to a number of the chicken dinner melodrama theater shows on the weekends. KFC will not be that much fun.

Neil and Lynn.

Good Day Everyone!

This is to let you know we will be attending this rally and we are really looking forward to meeting all of you who will be there! This looks like it will be a great event.

Let us introduce ourselves, we are known as “NorCal Bambi” and “CaddyGrn” and hail from California. Attending this rally will be one of our stops along our circuit of the United States as we travel to the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. We will be celebrating our “Sister Ship”, the 1963 Bambi, which is now a part of the museum collection. Our journey from California to New York and back is developing into what we are sure will be a wonderful experience! We anticipate chronicling this event with shared experiences, our regularly scheduled broadcasts with the VAP, and ultimately with a book sharing this adventure and the Airstream Community at large.

We would like to invite you to join our “Trailer Convoy America” rally as well! Signing up will show your support for MoMA’s selection of adding an Airstream to their collection as well as the Airstream lifestyle! It costs nothing to sign up: You can sign up if you would like to participate as a virtual tour member, as host (or potential host) for us or our group, or as a caravan member who will actually travel with us part of the trip. To sign up just click on I will attend at:

It was inCondoluminum's directions from post #74

When it intersects I-280 take 280 north towards San Francisco, and after passing SF Airport exit, stay left to follow signs to Golden Gate Bridge and Hwy 1.. You'll be put onto 19th Ave, which is 6 lane boulevard, but no left turns and lights are timed, and it's used by trucks. Stay in right lane to weave through Golden Gate PArk, and follow 19th through MacArthur Tunnel. Turn left at end at bottom of hill (from either lane..) and you're on the on-ramp to Golden Gate Bridge, and no tolls northbound, so bear right and go.. As you approach bridge, you are back on Hwy 101..

Stay on 101 north through Marin County and past Petaluma, ignoring Hwy 116 which looks like a shortcut! Exit from 101 west onto "River Road" at south end of Santa Rosa, and follow River Road past wineries and Guerneville to the Campground about 5 miles inland from Ocean...

Others may advise staying on I-5 longer (past Los Banos cutover to 101) but don't try I-580 into Hayward/Oakland area.. If you're trying to miss Bay Area congestion on east side, stay on I-5 and take Hwy 12 from Lodi to I-80, then I-80 to Hwy 37 at Mare Island, and Hwy 37 to join 101 north in Novato... Hwy 12 looks flaky on map, but is good relatively flat and open two lane road across Delta from I-5 to I-80... If time permits, there is a tour-able Budweiser Brewery along Hwy 12, and the Jelly Belly Factory (with tours also) is across the road in Fairfield area...

Several Do Not's...

1. Don't stay on 101 and follow it through San Francisco, down Van Ness and out Lombard St... Very tight traffic and turns...
2. Don't attempt 116 from Petaluma.. Bad narrow road, useful for logging and small trucks/little cars...
3. Don't plan to arrive in rush hours... Morning is 6AM to 9AM, evening is 3PM til 7PM.. Traffic much heavier then around San Jose and San Francisco... You might make out hitting San Jose and 101-85 split around 5PM, as you'd then hit SFO after initial rush to bridge at around 6:30PM.. Would mean arriving at Casini in the dark, but do-able. Going north on 19th Ave or across bridge much before 7PM is not good idea... We plan to hit it at noon...
Happy trails!

Highway 12 CAUTION

Word of CAUTION about Highway 12 from Lodi to Fairfield (re; directions post #74). In the past month there have been at least 6 fatal head-on crashes at several different parts along that highway. It is indeed a well maintained 2 LANE road but heavily traveled much of the day. I don't mean to alarm anyone and it may just be a coincidence all these accidents are happening in such a short time but I believe I should caution those considering this route from I 5 to I 80. I want to meet EVERYONE that is planning to be at Casini.

Hi Neil,

Yes, judging from all the reports of fatalities in recent days, that is a treacherous strip of road to travel, and should be avoided if possible...hopefully someday soon, the State will put in a concrete barrier soon!!..like was done on hwy 37 by Mare Island..

Oh yeah, and I've been meaning to ask- how much is still torn apart on your tradewind, anholman. Judging from various threads I've seen you
