The structural integrity is a result of the epoxy combining with the wood fibers, even rotten ones. You can also add a layer of fiberglass cloth. A good probe tool is an icepick.

You can do it yourself and save some time and money. Use UV resistant 1/16 Lexan. Lexan, polycarbonate, is a lot easier to work than plexiglass.

The fan is probably original. Yes it has power. No manual lift. A non metal gear may be stripped. The screws are recessed, I can’t see them. No ceiling fan in bedroom.

Just about any replacement thermostat will work....

Just about any replacement thermostat will work. Disconnect the 2 thermostat wires and cross them. If the furnace is working it should start. The furnace circuit board is often a problem.
