If you show me yours, I'll show you mine...

Afrer arriving in an RV park and getting hooked up, I enjoy walking around the park to see all the other camper's rigs. This must be a natural phenomenon with most all RVers, just watch the other camper's heads as they also walk by. Like me, they are looking left and then right so as not to miss any details of the next camper. Of course, I am especially interested in scoping out the Airstreams.

But too close an inspection, like reading the manufacturers ID plate that Airstream rivets to the front, streetside quater panel might get you a startled look by the owner if he/she was to walk out and see you there. My curiosity though, about how the inside of other people's Aristreams are laid out makes me wish I could just ring the door bell and say "I would sure like a tour of your Airstream and If you would like to see mine I would gladly show it to you."

I wonder would happen If I asked?

I think most Airstreamers are very proud of their trailers/MHs. Every time I have shown interest in someone else's rig, they have asked me if I wanted to take a look inside.

I have also given tours of mine in front of my home, at rallies, gas stations, rest areas and once while stopped on the road waiting for an accident to be cleared.

We love to show Lucy off and give tours. That's assuming we have picked up our mess and the bed is made.

Ditto. We enjoy showing off Bertha when she's clean.
"You want to see inside? Hold on a second." (sounds of stuff being frantically thrown into any available spot) "Okay, come on in."

I met some people last summer at VanBuren State Park in Michigan who had a vintage Airstream. Of course, I scoped theirs out. Then I saw them scoping my AS out & they stopped by for a tour. Took me back to their trailer for a tour too. Turned out, we had spoken to eachother on this forum! Nice young couple. I think fellow Airstreamers love to swap tours. As far as everyone in the campground----it might get a little old!

I've given many tours of our Airstream since it is an unusual floor plan (bunk house) and love to see others. But my wife isn't into the "home tours" as much as I am. She is willing to show ours, but not as interested in others' as I am.

We no longer consider it unusual when someone knocks at the door and asks to see the unit - our most memorable one was being chased down inside a grocery story to show it - but then there was that time I was seated on the throne .... that visitor didn't stay long ....

We kinda enjoy showing it off (after all - one of the reasons it appealed to us was because of its exceptional looks) - however, there is one lesson that needs to be learned when you own an Airstream - you pretty much need to keep it presentable all the time.

As much as I enjoy giving a guided tour of ours, I really like to see other vintage units even more. A funny story happened though when I had it at the Dept. of Transportation for an ID check when getiing it registered in AZ. All three of the inspectors on duty that day just had to see the inside but they had to wait because two other couples were already getting a tour.

One of the very few drawbacks to owning an AS is that we have to keep it clean and organized at all times! Anytime any where no matter which AS we have folks always stop and start asking questions and of course a tour is a must! We love showing the other half how us ASers live!

Que Bella

A couple of years ago I was playing tag with a tour bus on the way from Dinosaur Monument to Flaming Gorge. We both pulled into the parking lot at Flaming Gorge Dam at the same time. As soon as the tour bus doors opened the whole busload charged me. They ran by me with shouts of "Que Bella" and "Bellisimo" to my AS, pulled out cameras started posing and taking shots including close ups of my license plate. It was a busload of Italian tourists and invited them all in for a tour.

We give a lot of tours. Even when going through US Customs we've had several of them out to have a look at the car/trailer. At gas stations, restaurants, and in the campgrounds. We don't mind it and actually we are honored and a bit humbled that people would want to take a second look.

What is really neat are the younger couples who are really interested. They are the ones you want to make sure are keenly interested.

We figure anything we can do to get people interested in getting their own Airstream is worth the effort.

Show me yours and I'll show you mine...

Okay, so the next time I am out with the AS I am going to search out the other Streamers and ask for a looksee. I would send pictures of the inside now but don't know how to get 'em posted.

This is a great way to meet people, no matter where they are parked. It's funny but I seldom had anyone interested in looking at most of our vintage trailers we had although we never did a TCT event. Our 17' Boler got the occasional request.

When it's an Airstream I always know I'm going to get a welcome friendly response. People are very proud of their babies no matter what vintage. If you are a recluse it would be hard to be an Airstream owner .

Airstream Tour is SOP at Rallies

Hi, at least that is how I believe it to be, is that Airstream tours are Standard Operational Procedure at the rallies.

We have our Air sticker in the back window of our 5th wheel. You probably won't see very many "Some Other Brands" with that sticker but if you see ours you're welcome for a tour!

Sorry to say I've never seen another AS on any of my travels here in Oklahoma. I see them parked behind someone's barn or out in a field, but never seen one at a camp ground. Found one in a filling station and talked to the owner who had no idea what he had. He just bought it and knew it was an AS. His wife didn't want it, but he loved it and was pulling it back home.
