Rain rain go away...
Had just enough of a break in the rain today to cut some cherry into octagon pieces. Glue is now drying...then I can start on the bed frame...
Mrs HiHo ripped into the window screens...polished...I helped insert the mesh with my hi-tek roller (actually its a flush rivet cutter)
1st pass at polishing a propane tank, black rouge...probably gonna back up and wet sand then re-polish...

Lumber stores have a value, I decided today...
10 hours of work...rough cut cherry and pine...cut to size and power plane'd to finish...
The only thing to show? A pile of 1" think lumber and a single piece glued to a chunk of Baltic burch...

Vernon, you make a good point. But you can't achieve the kind of results that you are working toward by going to the lumber store. Besides, you'll be pointing to your cabinets with pride some day saying: "I made these out of cherry from my dad's sawmill back in 2012." However, there's a real art in planning and executing a project in knowing where to start, where to stop, how good is good enough, etc.
On the other hand, your 63 Overlander is looking great and you'll be proud of your efforts from now on!

Yeah, Every little imperfection will have a story behind it...
Tonight I forced myself to turn the 1st cherry post...I hate the thought of chucking a piece of wood into a metal lathe but I don't know of any other way to create a perfect cylinder...
Back a year ago, I made some short mock ups.
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f109...tml#post934291
This time the sections are 37" long...they barely fit into my lathe...
This will get quartered to create the round ends for the kitchen cabinet, bed and bath cabinet.

Dang, Dang, Vernon! I wish I knew how (or had) to use a lathe! I can't wait to see your interior all finished!

Sweet setup on the lathe - looks like a metal lathe - didn't want to turn a solid aluminum blank? Very nice work so far. Really interested to see how your cabinets turn out.

Today I split the 1st round tube. I made a sled to hold the tube and ran it thru the table saw.
A quick trial assembly of the bed front panel...
I'm using Baltic Birch for the big panels, a double round of Cherry stain matches it to the real cherry. Everything will then get a coat of clear...

Looks awesome! What are you using other than baltic birch, for non-"big panels"?
Also, are those full thickness sides or some 1/8" or 1/4" on top of a stick frame?

The current plan...1/4" Birch will only be used for the large expanses, backed up by a stick frame (walls, ends of cabinets and the like). All of the other visible wood is cherry. Drawers and doors will be solid cherry, probably 5/8 thick and mitered down on the edges to 1/2 or less so they dont stick out very far. I've salvaged most of the metal pull handles, still on the fence for hinge types.
Or at least that's the plan as of now

The bed is framed up and the glue is dying. The ply has a coat of stain, the cherry is fresh cut and SHOULD darken to match .
Next comes a coat of poly.
I REALLY need to cut some walls but for some reason I am dragging that out

I kinda like the difference in color! I agree with Steve, I think you are closet woodworker . Why the bump up from 1/8 inch BB to 1/4 inch BB, seems like overkill since the frame carries all the weight? Seriously, I think you are doing a bang up job!

Probably because walls are a bit of a PITA, but compared to your beautiful cherry drums/quarters, they'll be a piece of cake.
Great work, I love the rounded corners.

I'm feelin walled in...
bathroom walls are cut, aluminum channels are cleaned. Now to build the structure and rivet stuff in. The weather is not being very cooperative, rain and today was gusts to 40 mph.
