Several of us will be at the KOA in Holbrook, AZ tonight. The plan is to arrive at the rally around noon on Thursday. If you are in the area, please join us on our mini caravan to the rally.

I'm planning to come down just for an hour or two on Saturday. Alas, sans MG, which is ailing. (It might be the timing chain, unfortunately.)
A couple of our Denco unit friends are coming down Friday, and they'll be joining me for the visit. More when face to face ...
I hope it's not as hot down there as it's been up here. Fat chance. It was 72 here yesterday afternoon, which IS hot for us.

We (Rob & I along with Fred and Chris & Jim for a caravan of three) are leaving Denver tomorrow morning about 9:30 am and hope to arrive in time for happy hour/dinner. We're driving straight through because no water + no potty = no-overnight-boondocking-at-WalMart for us. More of the CO contingent are arriving Friday morning.
See you all there!

We are coming down via Aluminum, but alas, it is the flying (aircraft) type. Wish we were driving down with “May” in tow, but at least we are coming, and very much looking forward to it. We will see you all on Friday evening!

Shari, have a great trip!
Don't have too much fun/food/livations when you get there - for two reasons
1. I won't be there (thats the important one)
2. Save up your energy - a lotttt going on once Friday evening hits!

kudos to uwe at area 63! because of his work i'm able to take an aluminum tent to the rally this weekend.... and he managed to get some things done on his cloud as well. i'm not sure he got much sleep this week, so we'll all have to make sure to keep him awake this weekend!

Good morning from Holbrook, AZ. There are 2 Airstreams here headed to the rally later this morning. I talked to another couple yesterday that were spending the night in Flagstaff as well. It looks like this thing is about to begin!

I arrived at the rally site yesterday afternoon and several others are here as well. Last night Artstream hosted a happy hour and showed off his Airstream light show.
There are about 2 dozen trailers here this morning, several pulled in after dark last night. We should be seeing a steady flow of aluminum later today.
Time to take some pictures for posting later!

Today was the first day of the rally. A lot of setting up followed by a great pot luck dinner. Then we had the first presentation by Rob and Shari who went through the restoration process of "Birdie". A great day, with lots more to come...

What a great set of photos. With all of the polished aluminum how does anybody see what's going on. Sure wish Lou and I could have come to this rally. Keep the photos coming.

Ken:
Please pass along my sincerest thank you to all that worked so hard on this Restoration Rally. I learned so much more than I would have expected. I am now inspired to tackle tasks that up until this rally I would not have. My only regret is that I have to head home a ½ day before the last seminars are over. As you know, we flew in for this event, so we had higher expenses (air, car and hotel). It was well worth it. I will now change my polishing method, I feel I can easily tackle Zolatone, can drill out and replace rivets (because I have), and I’m even ready to build a new bench (cabinet). This is only a sample of what I learned or improved upon this weekend. Anyone considering attending rally #3 in year 2010 should strongly consider doing so. I hope all of the presenters can take the satisfaction of knowing that they really helped, and it is greatly appreciated. Oh, and I am now looking forward to Uwe letting us know when the ’58 Flying Cloud is done, including pictures.

Great Rally
My hat is off to the many people of this rally that have put in so much time and energy to make this seminar the sucess it has been. Lavon .for one, drove 3 ten hour days to show us how to polish. It has been well organized, excellent presentations, and everyone has been so eager to answer our many questions and to show us their restorations. God Bless you all. I too had to fly in, but it was well worth it. I can only make a half day today, and sure hate to leave early. Kips airstream, I believe, is the most structurally sound airstream in existence. What a metal worker he is. I cannot imagine a more gracious host than Ken. For those who are restoring airstreams I think this is an invaluable opportunity to learn from some real craftsmen. I thank them all for sharing the benefit of their experience. I just don't understand why Brad wasnt in on the AC install demonstration, as he was the only one tall enough to do it without a ladder. Ed Brink, who said he hadnt done much work with his hands prior to getting his airstream 2 years ago, was keeping a lot of talent in harness. His work is excellent and was well presented. I sure hope to run into all those I met in the future. It will be nice to stay in touch on this great forum, the most civil I have been on, ever. Off to learn about axles and refrigerators this morning. My wife lasted about two hours. She sat in on Kips presentation, which she noticed I was all eyes and ears, and when he got to the part where he said, "I could talk about aluminum all day", she bolted. She later told me, what if you went to a cosmetic seminar with me and you were sitting there and the presenter said " I could talk about lipstick all day." What would you do???? No arguement there . We both enjoyed our first trip to New Mexico. I would highly recommend the Mauger Estate Bed and Breakfast, for those who arent able to come in a trailer. Thanks to all, once again for a wonderful 3 days, and for so much information. Eugene's fate will be decided on the way home.
