FCU Cool Colorado Boondocking Rally
Airstream25 and lsinclair of the WBCCI Four Corners Unit are planning a Colorado high country boondocking rally July 4-7, 2008.
This time was picked because the summer heat should have arrived and most working folks will have a 3 day weekend. Because this is a popular camping weekend, we will choose a site off the beaten path in the Wolf Creek area. The exact location is pending snow melt and an assessment of road conditions. Larry (lsinclair) has volunteered to do some reconnaissance and give us a report.

FCU Cool Colorado Boondocking Rally
Hi gc24,
Yes, the "FCU Cool Colorado Boondocking Rally" is really going to happen (barring global nuclear war, etc.)
There are 7 units signed up already.
Are you a WBCCI member or wannabe?

Hello !
I'm a french film maker, filming in United States. I'm travelling from East to West, making a documentary about housing, habitat, way of life. I would like to tell the story of legendary Airstream Compagny, through people living in Airstream Rv.
I'd like to come to meet you during this Colorado Rally. I'll be in Colorado at that time (4 > 8 july). Would it be possible ?
Where the rally's supposed to occur ?
Our "crew" is only two people (a cameraman and I). Very soft impact.
Hope to read you soon.
Roland

FCU Cool Colorado Boondocking Rally
Greetings Everyone,
This "FCU Cool Colorado Boondocking Rally" is planned to be a bit adventurous, perhaps along the lines of what Wally Byam might have done. Since it is the middle of the summer, I wanted a high elevation for the cool, clean air and great mountain views. The boondocking site chosen is at 10,600' elevation and is 26 miles down a gravel/dirt road. This should ensure that we will have the place to ourselves. See photo.
Sorry about the lack of news about this outing. Larry and I had been waiting on snow melt and road work before deciding on the exact location.
The latest information that I have is that snow is still blocking access to the boondocking site from Hwy 160 via Park Creek Rd/NF-380. However, we can access the boondocking site from Hwy 17 via NF-250. I have been told that NF-250 from Hwy 17 via Platoro is open with some wash board areas, a few narrow blind curves (may sound the horn for a warning with limited distance/view) and some areas of loose rock (small) between Platoro and our camp area.
We are planning on having a potluck dinner on the arrival night, Fri. July 4. We will bring potato salad, fried chicken, (or some other meat entree) and wine. Hope someone will cover salad, vegetables, desert, etc.
Please bring all the usual, i.e. card tables, chairs, candles, eating utensils, binoculars, camera, bug repellent, jacket/sweaters, etc. There is a stream nearby for those of you who are fishermen.
I am told that, "Currently there are no fire restrictions in the high country. There is firewood in the general area."
Looks like 6 or 7 people had expressed interest. Please email me at airstream25@gmail.com if you still plan to attend and I will sent you a map and my cell # via return email.
Jerry

Hello Roland,
I would be pleased to have you make a documentary that would be favorable to Airstreaming.
Send me your email address and I will send you a map.

We are at 4 units. No word back from 3 others who had expressed interest.
The weather forecast at the closest town, South Fork, is for isolated thunderstorms, highs in the mid 70s and lows in the low 50s. I expect the temperatures to be 15 to 20 degrees cooler at our boondock site at 10,600'.

10,600' .... Breathe, one two three; breathe, one two three; breathe.... Have fun on this high country campout! We are too unconditioned and find ourselves intermittently gasping for oxygen when we stay this high. It's nice to know that some of you are still enjoying higher ground! What a scene for celebrating the Fourth of July, ~G

maxandgeorgia,
In your states visited map, how did you get your Airstream into/out of California without traveling through the contiguous states??
