2009 FCU Vintage Restoration Rally

The Four Corners Unit is pleased to announce its much anticipated second annual Vintage Restoration Rally.

This is a rally for anyone interested in hands on learning all of the ins and outs of restoring a vintage trailer, or just seeing how these trailers are put together.

This rally is part seminar (classroom) and part hands on and does not require you to bring your trailer. Topics anticipated are as follows:

Complete overview of trailer restoration – with lots of photos to see
Rivet and skin skills taught by Aircraft experts
Cabinet building skills
Zolatone painting (this will be worth it alone)
Electrical – basic and high tech wiring
Axle replacement
Door rebuilding/repair
Solar
And more!

Check out last years rally http://www.airforums.com/forums/f289...lly-39159.html and we think you will see it is a must attend event – this is the only rally whos focus is Airstream restoration and you will see and learn far more than humanly possible to absorb – which is why all the presenters put their handouts in a book that you can take home with you.

We will have trailers at the rally that will be working on and tons and tons of tools around so that you can get some hands on experience.

So here is the deal….. we are limited in classroom space, which limits this rally to 30 units. Pre-registration has filled this rally 1/3 full already (those who attended last year get first priority). If the demand is there we will consider expanding this rally by renting a fully enclosed tent. So we will confirm attendance up to 30 units. After that we will take reservations and make our decision on expansion based on the reservation list.

So you want details…? Ok - we hold this rally the last weekend in April (24-27) at Enchanted Trails RV Park and Trading Post (an old route 66 trading post) in Home Albuquerque NM. The weather is usually pretty nice this time of year (maybe a little breezy ) and is the perfect time to get going on your pre-season restorations. Our rally fee will be the same as last year ($30 per person – adult $20 each child) plus as screaming deal of $14 per night to Enchanted Trails (thank you Vicki!!) for the camp site.

So what do you get for your 30 bucks? You get a great learning experience plus a catered meal on Saturday night (so you don’t have to worry about cooking after working hard all day) a pancake breakfast (so you won’t have to worry about cooking after staying up late on Sat night) Sunday morning and a great restoration manual to take home with you.

So don’t hesitate, we look forward to seeing you in Albuquerque!

Count us in Ken! we learned so much last year and we need to replace about 5 buck rivets over the door on our trailer this year. Hopefully Kip or Zep will be there to help with that. Is there a sign up page?

Ken:

I am also very interested in attending. I will be looking to stay nearby, as I will need to fly in for the event, and will not bring an AS. Any recommendations for nearby accommodations is welcome. I will also be watching for your sign-up page.

Louis - You are on the list! Cool another demo trailer....

Tim - sign up (oh yeah, left that little detail out) is via PM to me - please give your name, # of attendees, e-mail address and City/State, and if you are camping with us or flying in with/without trailer (that would be a GREAT rally presentation - how to make your Airstream fly!! ) - thats all there is to it! The reason we don't do a sign up via forums and because we have folks who are not on this forum attending.

So.... what we do is put your name on a list and you will get newsletters leading up to the event. We will give you details on where to send the rally fee and how to reserve your spaces at Enchanted Trails.

Count me in! Since the previous owner of my trailer has not delivered on his promise of lifetime polishing of my 75, I am becoming pretty good at it. I can bring my cyclo and do some demos with that.

My PM to Ken is complete! It looks like it was a great Rally last year, and an excellent agenda for this year as well. I am looking forward to seeing everyone who is attending in Albuquerque in April!

Richard - I believe the previous owner promised lifetime WATCHING of you polishing of your trailer - you gotta get this right. So I plan to get a very nice cozy chair and watch the sweat roll off of you - I'll take some pictures and sip a Marquarita - can't wait...

Tim - we look forward to seeing you as well - come prepared to have a great time and watch as Richards spends all weekend polishing his trailer - maybe you can help me bring him refreshments and food from time to time - and - help me keep the noise level down so he won't feel like he's missing much...

Sounds like it. I might be traveling solo as Jan has used up her 0 days of vacation and holidays this year.

Ken - Since we will have a mostly vintage crowd, maybe we could have a swap meet as part of the rally. I have stuff...

We're in. Although I'd like to suggest a change of venue to a certain address in Phoenix, that's probably not gonna happen...

Nope. I bought a bunch of parts from a guy that sold his trailer before he could restore it. I mostly wanted the new Intellipower 9245, which I installed and now I have some other stuff I really don't need. I also have the old MagneTek converter that needs a home as well.

I'm not sure if I can make it yet, but if I do maybe I can bring 6472 from the 63 Round the World Caravan.

I don't know if I want to pull her on the tires she has, and I'm not yet ready to buy a new set just to sit in my backyard for a few years. Anybody have any good used ones?

Ken, I had to back out last year but would love to attend. I am blocking those dates out for travel. I have a 73 Sovereign that has some issues if you need a trailer.
Thanks, Gary Yandell

video?

Any chance some of the attendees could bring along a camcorder and post some videos for the rest of us?

I know you have the 30 unit limit but can we come with our new (but out of factory warranty) trailer? Or is that discouraged? I've heard this is a great educational experience.

Ken - no problem - we've never taken an 06 apart and since its out of warranty, should be no problem with factory....

Yes! PM me with your info and I'll put you on the list - we will be glad to have you!

Wow, that ought to be some kind of Swap Meet if you are going to donate your '06. I'll be watching for the video on that effort.
