2005/2006 International Rallies
Where is the International 2005 and 2006? Is Oregon on the list?

2005 is in Springfield Missouri and I believe 2006 is somewhere in Oregon.

Springfield
The 2005 International at Springfield will have 30A power available. That's the only way I would go to Springfield in July!

We are definately going to Springfield...even though we don't have A/C. I have to go...I'll be President of the DenCO Unit in 2005 ~ but parking with the VAC
I'd like to go to Oregon...but we'll see how it goes, too far ahead to plan!

Hey Shari, if we can go all the way to CO, then certainly you can come to OR
I think we're going to go to Springfield. It would give us a chance to visit with Brett and Edie again, since we're on opposite coasts and not likely to run into them otherwise. I'm looking forward to seeing what the motorhome we helped them buy looks like now!
We don't have AC either, but it will be a good excuse for becoming good friends with people who do!

Paul,
I hope your Caravel is in better shape but you've still got time to get the Overlander ready. Heck, by then you'll have two more anyway.
Either one of these Int'ls would certainly be doable but Springfield in July would REQUIRE an AC. In 2002, we were in MO for a week in July w/o AC and we took cave tours to get cool.

Typo in earlier post
Just reread it and I said 20a power. I edited it, but I'll repost since it is way up the list.
The 2005 International at Springfield will have 30A power available. That's the only way I would go to Springfield in July! this came straight from the current International 1st VP.

Cave tours? 30 amp power? Come on guys, I live in Springfield and July is not, um, well its more.... The temperature is usually just, ok its hot. But the humidity is only .... Hmmm, I wonder if 30 amps will be enough? And both Crystal Cave and Fantastic Caverns ARE nearby.

Hey, nobody spends any time in their trailers at these events anyway, right?
We're going to Oklahoma after the VAC rally this year. I guess we'll find out what hot really is, then we'll figure out what to do about MO.

Suffice it to say that we live in Missouri and as soon as the sweltering days of July and August hit, we head out for northern Minnesota or the Rockies! Now that we have an Airstream and its AC to enjoy, it's a little different. We will summer camp in clear cool stream areas in Missouri such as Roaring River or Bennett Spring, but shade, please, shade and moving spring-cold water! And we still prefer spring and fall for local camping. Just know and come prepared. With all these warnings, wouldn't you know that right now we are in the middle of what looks like a week of "Rocky Mountain High" beautiful weather-what a break for us. 50's at night, low 80's in the daytime, bright sun, low humidity. Come and enjoy it-this doesn't happen often around here in the summer!

From Northern Minnesota---weather forecasters have a frost warning for tonight. No need for the ac, just blankets.
Best,

The comments about temps / weather at International rallies prompts me to report something I discovered at the 2001 rally, in Soiux Falls, and also applied at the 2002 one, at Rapid City.
I found that, with the lenghty 'daisy-chain' water system, if I took my shower around 4 or 5 pm; I never had to light the water heater. There was plenty of hot water, directly from the showerhead, for a reasonably long and comfortably warm shower.
'Never lit the water heater at either rally (and I stayed clean enough that nobody turned blue from holding their breath while down-wind of me.)
Anyway, I suspect this may be the case at Springfield, too.
I recall some of the 'old-time' WBCCI members telling of inflating a child's wadding pool, filling it with water, and leaving it in the trailer while they spent the day at activities. Then, bathing in the warm water in the evening, when they returned to the trailer.
So...there is one small benefit to hot, sunny weather during a rally.

There is only one logical place to have lunch while you are in Springfield next summer. This is located eight miles north of the rally site in Fair Grove, Mo.

Hmm....nothing like going for a glass of water to drink and finding it hot. I hear they are dealing with mud this year. Supposedly for some sites the ground is so soft that the units are being towed into place by tractors....and they have even bigger tractors standing by to get the tractors that get stuck, out of the mud.
You know the whole event starts to remind me of some type of endurance marathon. Ungodly heat, followed up by hail and rain, mud, and water supplies hot enough to shower with. Lord this looks like so much fun!
