No lights when on shorepower?

Hi all!

Brand new 2019 GT 25FB. Super excited, love this thing already! The weird behavior we have noticed is that the overhead lights turn off when plugged in to shore power but the batteries are in the off position. Anybody know why?!

So, all the lights are 12v. They can be powered by the battery or by the converter. If your batteries are "off" and the lights don't work, then the converter is either not working or is also off. Can you switch your rig to the "use" position? I suspect the answer is there...

I did not know that they were strictly 12V! The 23D FC we had wasn’t so. Good to know, just getting used to this rig. Replacing with my good batteries has done the trick. The Interstates that they come with are hot garbage.

Thanks for the quick reply earlier too, very helpful!

Your owner's manual has lots of information in it, even if that info is a bit scattered IMO. Worth a good read to stay ahead of problems which will arise . . . isn't that why we got an Airstream?

There is nothing wrong with well-maintained Interstate batteries . . . just the "lot rot" to which many dealers subject them:

https://www.google.com/search?q=lot+...com&gws_rd=ssl

If your batteries were bad, your AS and Interstate warranties should have covered you -- check with dealer.

The Batteries sub-forum is full of similar tales: http://www.airforums.com/forums/f449/
use store switch: https://www.google.com/search?q=use+...=airforums.com

Good luck,

Peter

Hi

Unfortunately, over the years, AS has fiddled a bit with just what the use / store switch does. In some cases identical model/year trailers got wired slightly differently. They also now have (at least on some models) put in a true battery disconnect. This gives you two switches that could be called "battery on/off".

What you need to work out:

1) Does the battery charge in the "use" position? Some do / some don't.
2) Does your battery charge in the "store" position? Again, some do and some don't.
3) Does it charge in both positions? Many trailers do.

(I do believe that wiring errors or mods are the reason for some of this)

Lights / fridge / fan ... all should be off in the "store" position. Do not set things to "store" just before you head off on a trip. The fridge will defrost while you are in transit .... I have data on this ...

With the battery disconnect open, the batteries are out of the picture. No charging and no discharge. To me, this should only be used when in long term storage. Otherwise, leave it engaged.
