Locked inside trailer

Warning: check your inside door lock handle plate screws to make sure there tight. Ours worked loose and the handle would not unlock the door to let us out. Inside screen door blocks access to the two screws on the edge side so that your unable to take them loose to remove the plate and give you the ability to move the latching mechanism. I had to go out the emergency window and open the door from the outside. I was able to reassemble the handle and plate so that the door closes and opens properly now.

At 74 yrs old its no fun climbing out the emergency window!

Good morning Gleverett; glad you're ok and that you were agile enough to shimmy out the window. Yep, no fun. Thanks for the warning; I'm going to check today.
Happy trails,
CC

We travel NFS and BLM roads to discover these same three phillip head screws loose.

When they become loose, you will notice that the door latch is tougher to release to exit. I have a phillip screw driver under the seating next to the door. Snug them up, test if the door opens easily or not... and there is just a little bit of play to work with.

Gleverett, great reminder to all. This comes up periodically on the forum. There is a permanent fix by removing the lock and installing a screw to secure the handle.

I took the “get out of jail free” option and drilled a hole in the screen door frame. You can then use a screwdriver to open the latch. I practiced it several times and showed the DW too. A little day glow paint on the latch and screwdriver help in low light. The screwdriver is kept in the storage compartment by the door under the seat.

Some day I’ll get around to the permanent fix.

Here’s the permanent fix post

Ironically enough this thread popped up again today.

It has the permanent fix you might want to do. See Post #25.
