Regardless of Dave's veracity (and why would he invent the story unless he's trying to punk the entire community?) I did buy a vehicle a long distance away: it has been about 6 or more years when we found the car we wanted: San Antonio is a fair distance from the SanFran Bay Area, so I flew down ready to buy: I don't remember if my credit union issues a cashier's check or "bank" check, but when we decided to close the deal on the MCoupe, we went to the seller's bank branch and they called my CU to verify the good check. I think they also got the phone # independantly , not trusting the one on the front of the check. (Anyone remember a SNL bit: Craig's Traveler's checks, because Craig is always home to answer the phone.) It all went smoothly & I drove through Texas in my new ride. Ironic that I can't find a quick photo of the car, though. Took about ten minutes.

Hey Dave, did you stay away from the bingo long enough to find your pics?

Dave - Sorry no news yet, was hoping to hear the theif had been caught somewhere in W. Texas & hung from the nearest tree (which being W. Texas could be a fer drive away?).
Keep your spirits up, we're all pulling for you.

No news, but that's what I was told to expect. I was told there's a one in five chance of recovery in the first two weeks, and after that it drops to one in 25... ever.
All I can do is stay positive, and work hard on my plans for my new Airstream next year.

No developments. It's two weeks, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

I had a K-5 Blazer stolen in Austin March, 1999.
The Austin PD called me about every 6 months for 2 years to ask me if I had found it....like that was my JOB???
Good luck, but my guess is it is probably unlikely to surface....hope I am wrong.

I know that after two weeks, the probability of recovery gets VERY low. I also appreciate the idea of those calls. It's a good way for them to wrap up and close the file, and it also shows that if they're calling you, they're probably also doing a couple of computer searches to see if it's been registered/totaled/insured elsewhere.

I got some bad news today.
My Airstream has been located, and she has been destroyed. He sold the aluminum to a scrap dealer near Midland/Lubbock in East Texas on the Friday after it was taken. He waited while they removed and weighed the Aluminum, took the money and left. He told them he would be back for the frame later, but never returned.
I'm really disappointed and a little heartbroken, so I have asked that this thread be closed, so I can move on and focus on things I can actually do something about.
I would like to thank everyone for their supportive comments, and for keeping an eye open, just in case we got lucky.
