7 pin to 4 pin - Jeep wrangler

My Jeep Wrangler has a 4 pin connector for towing. Airstream is 7 pin. What to do? Thanks much.

You need to have your jeep wired for a 7 pin connector. A 4 pin connector lacks a charge line and most importantly a brake line. The brake line will connect to a brake controller which you will need to install as well.

I might leave the 4 pin and just add a 7 pin.

Eastern South Dakota is very pretty with hills, rivers, and trees.

It may be better for you to to replace the 4 pin with a 7 blade so you have a direct plug for your airstream. You can buy adaptors to go from 7 blade to whatever style of plugs.

As AZflycaster said upthread, there is more at work than the connector itself. You cannot tow safely without a brake controller and the wiring to support it, especially with a lightweight tow vehicle like a Wrangler. Part of installing a brake controller is the connector, and the mating 7 way connector that would fit your trailer is the obvious choice.

The 7 way connector also carries the charge line and the reverse light circuit, which, though important, are not required from a safety standpoint.

Rewiring your tow vehicle for a 7 pin connector is an absolute must as you will need this in order to operate the brakes on your trailer.
