2020 F250/350 rumors
I was getting ready to spec a new 2019 F250 diesel and starting researching new model upgrades. Last major upgrade I think was 2017. Ford seems to make significant changes about every 3 years.
A big change rumored for the 2020 F250 is an upgrade to a 10 speed transmission. I'm assuming a considerable improvement in mileage. Any other thoughts or rumors. As it stands now, I think I'm going to wait. My 2011 F250 has about 115K on it and never leaked a drop of oil or failed to deliver.

I read the same thing about the 10 speed transmission. There is also a rumor about a 7.3 gas engine.
I may be on the more cautious end of things, but I’d never buy a first model year of any major component—for any brand. When I heard the rumors about changes for next year it made my resolve to buy a 2019 even more concrete.

I used to be concerned about the first model years but the amount of pre-production testing has shown to be effective in reducing "introduction" model years. I bought the first year (2011) of the new Ford 6.7 diesel and after 115K miles it has never failed me or even leaked a drop of oil.

I remember when I was in flight school and it came time to pick the aircraft we wanted to fly...Dad said son, never fly the A model of anything! I'm watching what Ford is doing too. I want a new truck too and got lucky with my Ford diesels so far but man they are getting pretty liberal with our money.

So... Ford makes significant changes every 3 years, you should never buy the first model year and when you go to order mid second you find out what is supposed to on the next change. That makes it difficult

I just wait for them to come up used. But seriously, with A-plan pricing I can get a new one for the same price as a 3 year old one.

I think he means that the price of trucks these days is getting obscene.
Let's face it, who would have ever thought of seeing a $100,000 price sticker on a NA produced truck. A fully loaded Denali is there.
Cheers

2011 F250 sounds pretty new still. Why the want for a new one?
Looks like there's going to be a good refresh. Along with some new driveline options including a big new 7.xL gasser.

The major changes aren’t that close together. The 2017 release had a new frame, it was a major update. Interim releases are more cosmetic; bumpers, grills, trim. I wouldn’t expect major changes for 2020. The new transmission could come at any time, 2020 seems reasonable.

Except for the automatic tailgate opening from time to time on it's own, and Ford not interested in a recall, I am pretty happy with my 2017 F250 6.7L KR model...I would love to have the 10 speed trany though...drool...with 47K miles now, not ready for trade yet...

I thought the OP said he was ready to spec out a diesel, why would you mention a gas engine

Totally fair and I'm sorry I offended you.
My take was that he was spec'ing a new high end HD truck. As his is a relatively new model, I was interested in reading deeper as to why he was upgrading. If the interpretation for "diesel" is "performance" as I assumed, one might want to be aware of the not so small rumor/addition to the new generation F250/350. Performance towing a welterweight AS and not an 18k commercial trailer that is. I won't mention it again now that I know his focus on the new generation.
I have no horse in this race. As I don't own a Ford or a truck. Other than general love of all types of vehicles and powerplants.

The 10 speed transmission is stock in the ecoboost f150 and was a joint venture betweeen ford and General Motors. It’s been around for a few years. I guess I didn’t realize it wasn’t In the f250.

The new 7.3 gas motor could come close to the diesel in horsepower. Will be interesting to see what it’s like.

They need something like a 10R200

You guys do realize that the 10 sp transmission would not be rebuildable. If it fails, you'd be looking at buying a whole new transmission from Ford at a cost of at least $10,000 for the transmission; and I'm being conservative with that figure.
Most likely looking at $15-20,000, installed.
More speeds, just mean more to go wrong; not to go right.
Cheers
