Sewage hose — what's a good one?
I need to replace the sewage hose, which is a not-quite 10-foot cheapie the Airstream dealer threw in.
What's a good one?
Need more than 10 feet, probably less than 20.

I have been using two of the 10' Camco RhinoFlex hoses for about 4 years now. They are heavy duty and well made. I stepped on one of mine and the wire reinforcement bent, but the plastic hose didn't tear. I bent it all back into shape and it is still going strong.
The only "gotcha" is that the fittings are bigger than other hoses and they will not fit in the smaller under trailer tubular hose holders without modification. The fittings have "Ears" on them that you use to twist and lock them together. If you cut the ears off they will fit, but you may find it more difficult to mate and unmate the connectors. You can also get a bigger hose holder. That's what I did on my previous trailer. On this one I store them in the bumper drawer.

There are two types of fittings for the "stinky slinky" - Thetford and Valterra. They look similar, but they are not the same. Valterra is much more common. We used the cheap ones at first, too, but shortly before we went full-time I added a third valve and switched to the Valterra fitting. I then bought two Rhino hoses. That was 2013. Haven't bought another hose in that time.

We acquired a Rhino Flex Hose with our current trailer. I have been very pleased with it.

Dominator
Hi, I bought the Dominator kit which comes with two 10' hoses and an elbow. These are tough hoses, but the best part is that they collapse down to 3' each. I carry five of the 10' hoses.

I also have converted to using the Rhino flex. With some changes. I put on a large enough under the trailer carrier tube to carry the Rhino with the end fittings attached. I also do not use the swiveling 90 degree connection for the sewer that comes in the kit. I bought a solid 90 that does not come apart when you are dumping or when one of the 2 little tabs breaks. (I did not learn the first time but twice was enough.) And at my advanced age I also bought a set of the plastic levers or wrenches that work with the Rhino fittings. Keeps me from getting them stuck. And I put a Valterra fitting on the trailer so that the Rhino fits.

My vote is for the Lippert Waste Master 20’. $95 on Amazon. Uses cam lock instead of bayonet type. Easy conversion for Airstream. You can still use bayonet with adapter (separate purchase). Easily stows in 33 Classic bumper compartment. I assume other bumper storage space is the same. Very high quality.

I've tried several, cheap and expensive.**
So far the Camco RhinoFlex set with two 10' sections has worked fine. Brown hose, orange ends.
It seems to be leak free, clicks open and better, clicks closed.
90% of the time you only need one. But for the long reach...(Alumalina) 20' is great.
Since I don't use the caps, I made a PVC thingy to store it compressed.
** The overpriced Thetford Titan hose, Black/Green, clicked open, then wouldn't compress again. Imagine storing a 15' hose that's like a noodle.

I’m using the same hose. It works well, and I like it about as much as anyone can like sewer hose. I particularly like the way in compresses to fit in the storage tube. I’d buy it again if needed.

Yep. It’s what I have. I had another brand that I bought at the dealer. OK, but this one compresses down much better. Seems more durable. I carry 2 just in case I need the length.
By the way CAMCO has a connector that fits on the end of the hose that you can connect to the sewage hose. It will spray and flush it out and clean it. Highly recommend it.

The new Camco Extreme Rhino Hose is the very best that I have used over the years. You will not go wrong purchasing this hose and it is available on Amazon. However, as some have stated it will not fit in the standard carrier so I put it in a large garage bag and store in the rear storage bin on my AS.

Thanks for the responses.
I looked for some hoses on Amazon and, I have to say, the reviews are all over the place. No matter the hose, someone is disappointed and wants to tell the world all about it.
That makes it hard to make a choice, so these recommendations are helpful.
Just to be clear, which connection would a 2017 Airstream have — Thetford or Valterra?
And for those using the 20-foot RhinoFlex, or any of the other recommendations, do both 10-foot sections fit in the trailer's bumper hold?

Easily, along with the other sewer fittings, the awning hook, and my sandbag*.
*Back when you weren't sure the sewer hose would stay in the ground pipe, I got this tip from an RV'er. A tube sock filled with pea gravel, closed with a cable tie, inserted into the other tube sock and cable tied again. It's a 5# floppy bag that I drop over the ground fitting so if the hose wanted to jump out, it can't. It conforms to any shape.
Cheap to make and lasts for years.
I'm always looking to make things more efficient, and attaching the hose to the trailer so close to the ground is hard without kneeling.
I found these Camco 'wrenches'. Inexpensive.
Good for the Camco fittings, and no other it seems. The handle hits the trailer so it's awkward to hook the hose fitting.
In the real AS world, there's not that much space.

I’m also on board with the Rhino. As others have mentioned, the ears on the connector need to be shaved down so it will fit into the stock underbelly storage tube. I added a 2nd tube for a Rhino extension that is useful on occasion. I’ve gotten 8+ years service from the Rhino. We take extended road trips that last all summer so the Rhino sees lots of use.

We gave up on the slinky about twelve years ago and went with the Sewer Solution. We still keep a slinky in the belly tube for a fast gray water dump at a dump station.
We carry three additional 10' SS hoses. This gives us a 40' dump reach if we need it. In over 2,00 nights of Airstream camping we have never had the slightest urge to go back to the slinky.

Can you explain the PVC thingy?
How's it work, and how did you make it?
Thanks for the photo and info.

I do not think this is such a big deal. We purchase hoses that are heavy duty and use our thetford and screw in fittings in a cg. We have 2 sets. If we are going to be there for an extended time we use our sewer hose rack, 2X4 and zip ties. I am 68 and female and handle the hookups, health prevents my husband from doing anything that is the least bit physical. I do use a stool to hook up... that makes this comfortable...I like simple. Never a problem.
