Its breathtaking. Approx 1500 ft above ground level, this elevation is spectacular. Myself and my two boys unanimously voted this the best campsite on our 3500 mile 9 state "Great Western Tour".

Just got back from a 2,350 mile/11 day quickie.
These pics are from the Lincoln National Forrest near Ruidoso.
Yes, it’s an Avion, and no, it’s not for sale...

We spent a week in Riudoso last fall. It was a beautiful area. Spent some time looking for boondocking sites in the Lincoln National Forest but didn’t find any areas as open as what you found. Looks like a great spot with good access roads.

This valley I found while on the way to scout the Upper Bonito Disbursed Recreation Area above Ruidoso, NM. We were staying at Along the River RV park and had just come from 6 days of boondocking next to the Florida river outside of Durango and really wanted to get away from folks again. Along the River was nice, the owner, Matt was amazing but we were spoiled at that point.
The road is mostly good but there are several gotchas along the way and I’m glad I scouted it in my truck first. Tuesday morning had quite a few campers there but by the time I went back, hooked up and returned, we had the pick of any place in the valley. There was a nice little creek running by our site and had some friends meet us. It was a pretty fantastic spot. A lot of the other sites were trashed, it made me really question humanity. We picked up several bags of trash to do our part but it really pissed me off regardless. Our site was actually very clean though.

This spot, actually on my cousin’s land near Durango, was very nice as well. He’s toying with the idea of a “Hipcamp” type situation for it. 10 minutes from town and feels very secluded. There is a small offshoot creek next to the site and the larger Florida River about a hundred feet further.

Great Pics at Lincoln Nat’l Forest. We stayed at Eagle Creek RV Park there. Would recommend it to others. The dispersed area we checked out W/o the RV had a lot of ruts you would Have to navigate around so passed on it. Your sites look nice and relaxing.

Stony Fork is a wonderful NFS CG by Wytheville, Va. We are in site 48. It is a huge, shaded, private, level and FCFS site during the week with 4G cellphone service.

Cataloochee CG (site 9) in the Smoky Mountains NP. Reservations are required. The best sites are 3,5,10 and 12.
The road here is very squiggly. Anything longer than 25 ft could be a problem if you meet somebody on one of the tight turns.
Very limited cell service and no internet but it is worth it.

chugchug, is that smoke on the horizon, or just a low cloud. Hoping the snow might have dampened some of the fires out there. We’ve been through Lander a few times, and love that part of the country.
