Coach-Net experience?

Yesterday we had to use Coach Net for the first time ever. The folks that came out to change the tire (we had a blow out), were actually only about 3-4 miles away, but it still took nearly 3 ˝ hours from call to service. I'm not sure who is to blame here, but I am curious about others experiences with Coach Net. I ended up having to call them a few times to get updates, which bugged me. They did contact us when I guess the service provider decided to pick up the job, but sitting out in the hot sun for 3 hours isn't exactly ideal.

What have others experienced?

All of the roadside service companies pretty much function as “service agents”. Someone sitting in a dispatch office simply tries to figure out where you are and what is the cheapest way for them to get someone out to help you.

The actual service providers are pretty much independent contractors, kind of Ike Uber drivers — they can accept assignment or decline, which happens when there is a lot of work available.

I don’t know that any one company is better than any other.

Hi

Our only experience with Coach Net was pretty poor. We were off the road by the time we called them. They took a day to get back to us. Their claim was that nobody was available to come out within a 300 mile radius of Toledo Ohio. ( Check that on a map .... hmmm ....). We did not renew our membership ....

We have had to use them twice. The first time our truck (under warranty) had stopped running. The driver they sent told us he would fix it in his shop, no problem. It reached the point where I called Coach-Net back to "talk" to this guy and tell him to take us to a dealership or leave. He made it a very confrontational transaction. When he finally realized he wasn't getting paid until we were towed to a dealership he was visibly upset and then towed the TV and trailer as one unit to a dealer, about 15 miles away. It was not a good experience.

The second time we called, Coach-Net asked us if we were in a safe location. Because of the I-70 on-ramp there was not enough room to get the TV & A/S completely over the white line on the Interstate and traffic was going by with only inches to spare. Coach-Net dispatch called the state police to help and sent out a driver that changed the left rear tire on the truck while he was in the right lane partially protected by the police car. It all didn't take more than an hour and I was impressed by the guts that driver showed while changing the tire.

As was mentioned, I believe these are all independent contract tow companies and you are just at the luck of the draw. First guy was terrible, second one , a saint.

So I guess that puts me at a 2 & 1/2 'Star' customer! although it should be 0 stars and 5 stars...
