keep door the same and make a stained-glass transom?
------------------
EDIT: fine, the curvature won't match up very nicely, but it is an option

i was wondering when you were getting to the door issue :-)
i've read a lot of posts about warped doors. watching this thread i'd guess if you extended the door you'd make it stronger than new. one idea was to make a fold-in filler threshold panel that would give the option of climbing over or folding down if needed.

Also, aren't all your windows now going to be a little too high for some of the views? Extend them?
For the entryway, since you are so good with metal and ambitious on it, I bet that you extend the door. If I could change the height on anything in the trailer, it would be make the door easier to step in and out of. I've actually already thought about it on mine since I have to do a full rebuild of the door eventually, but if I go any higher on the frame I start reaching the real curve, then I would need a HUGE overhang above for rain. Plus the door within a door would look awkward.

increasing shell height
The entrance doors can easily be extended, but from the bottom only.
Sometimes, depending on the amount of the extension, the lower hinge may have to be lowered some what.

It's incomplete, and still languishes in a corner of the shop.

I also need to decide how to handle the doorway
Option1 - have a stepover threshold like a sailboat - the easy way out
Option2 - cut the bottom of doorframe and door and splice 12" of material to make the door taller
|
Perhaps another thought.
Option3 A metal break and a roller it seams like you could fabricate a brand new door using the radius from your existing door. No spicing.
Or since we have left convention behind here how about.
Option4 A 2-piece bi-opening pop out fold down piece with fold out stairs and the top piece fold up for shade. (na can't be done. Just kidding. don't try it.)

Dennis have not dismissed that idea. Kind of like it - ala private jet door. The only concern is it would need to be structural like a step maybe with skid tape on it.
Things like that I have to run through an animation program to see how it looks before I cut

I am starting the fab of the stem walls tomorrow. I will build the side walls first, reinstall the shell, and then build the arc end walls.

You asked about this possibly impacting aerodynamics. Not sure, but it seems like a higher-profile trailer would be somewhat less stable and get lower mileage since there's more air surface to move through.

Well you are probably correct on the gas milage but due to the battery weight my center of gravity is still good.
It's just the rain that's my problem now.
