Dome from Inland doesn't fit my '59

Help!

I got a 14x14 dome from Inland and it doesn't fit the frame of my old one (which has fallen to pieces). Any ideas what I should do? The hardware doesnt look like it will easily transfer to the new dome without some serious mods.

I wish I had known you were going that route. I would have suggested you measure the outside dimensions for your vent inner lip and called Inland to verify it would fit properly. I had the same thing happen with the AstroDome I purchased. I ended up making one with clear lexan and aluminum angle. PM me if you would like pictures and a cross-section.

..as a temporary solution, I have covered the original frame with white duct tape (overlapping the edges). It will at least keep the rain out if it holds up for a while...

I cut a piece of alum. and rivetted it to the vent cover with volkem and olympic rivets. Has worked for two years.

It looks like you could easily make a new frame from aluminum angle, available at Home Depot. This way your new vent cover would work, and you would get the benefit of the thermal barrier these vent covers have.
You can simply cut the angle in a miter box, then use a small angle piece and a few rivets to connect the corners. Seal it with some par bond or vulkem, and install your old hardware to it.
Just a thought.....

I'd send it back but speaking from experience be sure to get an return authorization first.

You will be much better off just riveting a section of Lexan or even just aluminum over the old frame and reusing it. It would be much more original as well.

You have picture a vent cover, not a vent frame. The frame is riveted to the roof and never moved.

Your photo shows a cover, with a hinge.

You might have some off brand vent that someone installed.

I have never seen one as you have pictured.
