2018 Sport 22' - Some minor issues

First off we love Hiyo Silver. Already have had it out 3 times in the first month of ownership...but having some minor issues on the road.

- I am amazed at how inaccurate the owners manual is. Referring to things that do not exist, wrong pictures of key parts, and wrong info.

- Hot water...does not work. Gas is on to stove, so it works. White switch with red light next to it in bathroom (manual says black and looks nothing like mine, also says it is over galley sink). Turn switch on and light comes on then goes off after two seconds. Comes back on and stays on after 6 seconds. No hot water.

- Fridge will not switch to gas. Tried everything. I can see the spark trying but never lights.

- I thought these might be gas issues, but stove works.

- GFI switches do not have test buttons. Will they work off of battery, or must I be plugged in?

- Finally, GFI circuit breaker will not reset to on. I read that I have to be plugged into city for that to reset. Anyone want to confirm?

Thanx

Eddy

GFCI plug must have shore power to reset
Red light on water heater switch means there is a problem. And since you fridge and water heater are not working prob mean air in the line. Allow them to stay on for a while or try multiple attempts at lighting and see if that fixes your problem

Some of the Atwood gas-only water heaters have a problem with the circuit board. IF that is the problem with that, it will open the gas valve, but will not generate a spark, or if manually lit, will not remain lit. The fridge not working on gas may be a supply issue. Does the furnace work?

get the circuit board replaced. i had the same issue. Any RV dealer will have this common heater part as they are im many other makes also, not just AS.

i got mine done in the boonies at a non-AS dealer at no charge, as the unit was under wuarantee

I had the same two problems on my 2018 Sport 16.

My GFCI break would not reset and dealer ended up replacing.

Water heater also not working after several times being used and I found an undocumented 2A fuse that was blown on the circuit board of the water heater. It is located right below the white connector. After replacing and closing the cover, the water heater circuit board blew with a small flame and black smoke! I pulled all power and scheduled a service visit. Dealer said that they've replaced a few (minus flames) and all is now working.

I'm just happy to get things fixed under warranty.

Thanks for all the info and ideas.

As an update, was able to reset the GFCI breaker by connecting to shore power.

Hoping to get the other two fixed in the next week. We continue to use without hot water.

Can you update us on the issues and what got fixed? My 2018 water heater quit on our recent camping trip. Got 2 good showers then it started failing to light. Gas good. All else using LP works. Thanks.

VOGT RV in Ft. Worth has ordered the board for me. Will ship it to me for install as we live 160 miles from the dealer. I did the troubleshooting and believe the board is opening the LP but failing to electro light. Even when I manually ignite the LP stream, the board fails to recognize the flame and shuts the gas down. Thanks for the info.

Yup. Sounds like the correct diagnosis.

Bad Water heater circuit board

Is there anyway to tell if you have one of the "bad" water heater circuit boards before it goes out and stops working.

No way to tell since the failure seems to be spontaneous and permanent in my case. The board is potted and you cannot see or change the components to make a repair yourself. Pretty certain Atwood was cutting down on repaired boards competing with their new ones and knockoffs as well. They didn’t even require the board be returned under warranty.

Now I have another issue. On first startup, the pressure relief valve spews and drips and a puddle of water dinner plate sized forms on the ground prior to the water heater reaching temp and shutting the flame off. It never leaks again during the time it’s left on -just a cold start and the valve dribbles for the duration of the heat cycle. Annoying but I don’t want to get it repaired due to the hassle and uncertainty with a new unit. Atwood made a bad water heater...and it was not caught prior to installation.

It may not be your water heater this time. It might be that you just need to introduce an air gap back into the system that will allow the water to expand as it heats without causing the pressure relief valve to open. The same thing happened to us. I’m on a mobile device, otherwise I would link some threads, but there are quite a few if you search the forum.

Did the research on AF and found excellent discussion as well as the air gap that is necessary for Atwood to work as designed.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f163...er-117136.html

My rig is new and while I lost a spark board, I just assumed the dripping TP valve was a defect.

BTW the spark main board (mentioned in my earlier post that failed) may have been potted to prevent high voltage arcing rather than preventing after market repair. I'll be fair to Atwood.
