Front window obstructed by window guard....HELP!

Hello,
I'm the owner of a 1991 25' excella classic. It has a window guard on the front center window, which appears to be permenantly affixed. Here's the problem....the window guard has wing nuts that hold it into an open position. BUT, these same wing nuts block the window from opening even to the lowest locking position. Attached are pictures of what I'm talking about.
Anyone else had this problem? It's driving me nuts! Any ideas?

Open the window guard further.

Can the supports be reversed?

Eastern South Dakota is very pretty with hills, rivers, and trees.

I'm wondering if that wing nut is stock? They have this style now.

I also have a 91. I believe your supports are installed upside down. My knurled knobs are oriented toward the top.... looking at it as I type this....

It looks like the wing nuts are capable of sliding up the track more , open the strut fully.

I had the similar problem. Simply shorten the threads on the wing screws so they do not interfere with the movement of the inner window. Use a hacksaw then file the burrs away. The prior owner must have replaced the original wing screws. I tried to get the same as the original length but was unsuccessful. I bought stainless steel, not cheap but worth it.

before cutting the thread put a regular nut on and run it all the way down the thread. after you cut, backing off that nut will get you started on cleaning up the threads.

Thanks for all the input guys! At least I know I'm not crazy. You are correct that the window guard wasn't open all the way, but that doesn't make any difference as I still can't open the window even if its fully extended. I'll definitely either saw the wingnut threading down, or look into the nifty new knobs that they are using now. I really appreciate all the help! Ya'll are the best!

Just looked at my 2014 FC. The mounting appears to be correct. Male piece at the the top, goesinto piece on the bottom. The small black screw to tighten has a much lower profile and even then has very little clearance to the edge of the front window glass.
