1972 Sovereign Window latch

Does anyone know what will help to loosen the nuts on the window latch shafts? I have tried all types of lubricants and the nuts will not break loose. Would low heat help free up the nuts without damaging anything? One of the nuts on the latch had a small amount of movement and when any force was applied it snapped the threaded shaft. Trying to remove them to clean and polish. The VTS web site carries Airstream Latch Shaft replacements, has anyone tried these.

Other than using a Dremel tool to split the nut I can't see anything that would work. Heat will cause more problems and probably ruin the parts.

We used some latch replacements on our trailer when we did the windows. We used the inside handles on some windows. We replaced all the nuts with new. The inside handles are a little different looking than the originals if you really look for it, so we put those in more unobtrusive places.
