Just be sure the extension is making a good solid connection to the multimeter at all times you are using it.
Well, got my parts and practiced stripping and tinning wires. So far, so good. Final (hopefully) question: what to do with the drain wires that are in each bundled group of wires? Okay to trim them off?

Whoops, never mind. Just found a schematic showing that each drain has a dedicated pin. Sorry.

Nothing new but it is an extremely laborious and delicate process. Where are you in the process?

Carefully label each wire as you identify it - post it note, tape you can write on or similar so you can attach the wires to the correct port on the new HDMI end. This does not take long, you just have to be very careful during the identification and labeling process.

After you go through the process and have a working cable the most important step is to purchase a female to female adaptor and a short HDMI cable. You need to use the adaptor and short cable to lengthen the cable that attaches to your tv to avoid breaking the new end. Wrap the repaired cable and female connector with electric tape so you do not break your repaired end. In other words do not plug the repaired end into your tv and risk breaking in a second time.
