Shower

I disconnected the shower plumbing to redo the shower in my 87 sovereign and now can’t figure out how to tighten the hose connector pipe back down. There’s a bracket but it isn’t close enough to the wall to drill it in. Could there have been a random piece of wood holding the backer/pipe tight?
