Need help with electric tongue jack

2005 Airstream 31 Classic...have a Barker Industries H & H 3500 # tongue jack.
Acts like the limit switches are broken...blows fuse if you go full up...or if you go full down.

Can you please tell me if it has limit switches. If it does, how are they accessed ? Took the top cover off which gives access to the motor and the up & down switch. Removed the 2 screws going up from the bottom & I expected the case to come apart...it did not

Need help at this point.

This reference page might help. Not sure exactly how the newer jacks work, but the older ones like on our 1987 Avion had limit switches.

Any other history?
Was working fine and then started acting up?
Removed head for any reason?
Look at the post, is it visibly bent?

Note my jack is the Barker 3000 but may still apply.
check out this link and my post #7

that discussion is in regards to greasing the barker but contains a link at the bottom re re-sequencing.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f44/...be-183854.html

for some reason the link in the above post is not working. This link post #50 is the re-sequencing instructions that Barker sent me. They never did answer re the limit switch (and simply send me a new head) so my takeaway was No switch...just methodology.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f44/...-151073-4.html

hope this helps

I contacted the Barker company directly a few weeks ago to explain my issue on my jack. I was thinking it was a failing switch which the representative confirmed. I installed the new new switch he sent and it works well now. Not saying a new switch will work for you but speaking with a customer service representative was easy and helpful.

Steve was this a limit switch or the on/off? I was under warranty and was calling because the dealer declined under warranty. I kept asking Barker about the limit switch as I did not see it on the parts list/schematic and they kept saying re-sequencing...heck we'll send you a new head. Never got a definitive answer re the limit switch.

It was the on/off switch.

Tongue Jack

Thank you all for your replies. Yesterday, I finally found my jack on the internet by typing in Barker "superjack" instead of Barker 3500# jack. (cannot find model # on jack) That being said, they are saying remove the cover by removing 4 screws underneath (which I did) & "tapping" around the base. I guess they know its either painted or corroded shut.
And the schematic shows limit switches.
Will try again next couple days and will repost.

I was grateful to have an extra set of hands/eyes while replacing my on/off switch. Take pictures of the wiring before you disconnect anything. We disconnected and reconnected one wire at a time which was helpful for not getting confused. The light and on/off switch were accessible under the main cover but I didn’t see any other switches just under the cover. If the limit switch is deeper accessibility could be an issue.

If the Barker refuses to cooperate, the Husky jack has got a pretty good following and comments.

Glad you figured out which model you have. I thought maybe yours was the newer model (the Barker 3500#), but you have the same as I do. It's about time for me to clean and relube ours.

Yes - Husky replacement. There is a piece of my thoughts that is guilty on two points. The Husky is not "Made in the USA" and repair seems more frugal than replacement. My deciding logic was that having to replace/repair a product after 3 years did not meet my expectation of a good product. That also tainted my perception of the better jacks which Barker sells. Changing products nixed the fix what you got logic, so we moved on.

The Husky is slower. That is offset by quieter operation. Time will tell if it is a better product or just different. However, that silver paint goes quite well with AS aluminum. Pat

It took a bit of looking but I installed my Husky in 2013. I had already replaced the switches in my then 6 year old original jack. The Husky has required zero service so far. I think they hit on a darn good idea when they utilized a ball screw drive and my rig is pretty heavy in the hitch at hook up time. I've never even used the manual override.

I think they did too. That was a major justification for buying it. Thanks for the reliability info. Pat
