Barker Levelrite HI-Power 3000 Annual Lube

I have a 2015 27FB FC and looking for advice on how to Lube with grease my power jack It seems to be groaning lately - need help please. The 4 page manual doesn’t help much.

Thanks,

Glenn

I had a Barker on my classic so I don't know if you have the same head as mine had, but I took the head cover off ( 4 screws under it) and put some lithium grease on the gears inside. I used a plastic putty knife. Mine died about a month ago. The integrated brake stopped working so when I let off the switch the jack would start to let the coach go down and it was getting impossible to stop it where I wanted it. Hope yours is OK

Thanks - I was thinking of using WD 40 white lithium grease in spray can. Is that similar to what you used?

Any lithium will work just fine. I used a white lithium it from a tube. I believe the WD 40 version is a spray. Application is irrelevant as long as you get it where it belongs.

Glenn,

I think there is some good guidance here about lubricating the gears in the head, but the lubricating of the lifting screw mechanism hasn't been addressed. And I have no idea how to do that, so, I'll be watching, too!

Here is a cut and paste from the website https://www.barkermfg.com/vip-3000.html

Owner's manual & parts pdf can be downloaded.

MAINTENANCE:
Once a year, the powerhead should be removed and a liberal amount
of grease (preferably a grease with high melting point) applied directly
to the coupling on which the drive pin rests.

DO NOT POUR OIL into top of the jack post.

Once a year, the housing cover should be removed and the gears
inspected for proper lubrication.
Remove 4 screws and tap around edge of housing to free cover.

DO NOT insert screw driver blade! (This may damage mating
surfaces.)

Before replacing cover, clean mating surfaces.
If lubrication is needed, use Mobilith 460 grease or equivalent.

FYI ...re re-sequencing in regards to the auto stop feature Post #50 pdf instructions at bottom.

I'll bite

So, when Barker says "preferably a grease with high melting point", are they thinking white lithium? Wheel bearing? Other??? If containers of grease provide info on the melting point of the contents I've never noticed it. That's ok with me because I wouldn't know whether any given temperature was too high, too low or goldilocks.

I hear ya. I was planning on using the (NAPA) marine gear grease that contains lithium that i bought for the hitch. Not sure if that makes it lithium grease or not. High melting point...??? Maybe I'll talk to Napa

PSU1981, got your thx and you're selcome. Any experience comments from your re-sequencing process would be appreciated. Never can tell when it might come in handy...especially since i'll have the head off for lube.

Happy trails

Bob,

Well can’t find the manual tool - so ordered another one. So project on hold for now.

Are you referring to the emergency handcrank? the jack is the same size as the male end of a 3/8" drive. I keep a 7 /16 12 point deep socket & 6" extension just uncase. Socket size varies by the # of points if the socket.

going back to removing the power head to lubricate the gears. the top cover is just an inspection cover and you cant see the gears , so do you remove the scews at the bottom of the power head ? and does the head just lift off ? I did read one time about installing the head to make sure you have full travel of the lift. I am concerned about removing the power head and running into a problem once its off. Has anyone actually taken the head off , lubricated the gears and replaced the head ?

My jack (barker 3000) quit going down a couple of days ago when I returned from a trip,so I of course I looked at my manual and this thread and decided that it was probably the switch,(which I have ordered) I also noticed that I was supposed to be lubing the head every year which I did not do.(2014 unit) So, thought I may as well do both at the same time.
I seem to be running into a problem with totally removing the top of the head after I remove the 4 screws. I can move it up to the point where I can see inside, but, no further. There is a c shaped retainer clip on the top which stops the small gear from riding up. Is that supposed to be removed? I have read all the instructions I can find and nothing mentions this clip. I don't want to break anything. Anyone else have any problems, and how did you solve it? Thanks

Similar to Bob, I am also wondering how this worked out? We have the same jack and want to do the maintenance, but came across the same apparent limitation. Other Barker 3000 owners seem to have had their jack replaced etc., in this 2015 thread:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f457...er-139798.html

Did you remove that retainer clip and lift off the top cover, in order to inspect and lube the gears?

Thanks,

Peter

Welcome to the forum. Your post count is still at "1" so I am wondering what you did about lubricating the gears. See the last few posts for details.

Thanks,

Peter
