Knives, guns, and other "shiny objects"

Having now returned from my South Dakota trip, seeing the display of knives, I thought I might share my venture into Badlands Pawn in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.....where i was raised.

So, I walk in to get information about another event, but was attracted by the fact the person at the information desk was carrying....a "shiny object".... After some discussion, another individual took me into the locked room with the firearms, very complete in the inventory including the opportunity to fire five rounds from a 50 caliber machine gun.... for only $100...USD. I declined, but only after a few mouth watering moments.

The three sales persons all had Clock 19's on their hips, and then two local police officers came in with more firepower at their sides.....I felt compelled to express my feeling of being undressed and was told this could be corrected with about $600 USD.

I do not visit gun shops.... until I visited this one. And now my attraction to "shiny objects" is growing. And, what a rationalization i can come up with as I travel alone for the most part, hooking up with friends at my final destinations.

Yes, 50 caliber, mounted on the hood of my TV....keeps running through my mind....mmmmm.

Well, this side note just seemed to fit into the "shiny object" category....LOL

A fraction of a second blip on the trigger of the Gatling gun in the A-10 Warthog will roll the cars around on the range like dust bunnies when a fan is turned on. I watched that activity at Camp Atterbury in southern Indiana many years ago..

It could be disguised in an old Studebaker and come out of the center headlight position...

The Navy had a 20mm gun pod designed to hang on an F-4J. They parked them on carts aimed out to sea.

One day, one of the weapons folks was diagnosing a problem with one of them, and hooked up a power supply to the plug in top of it, as he straddled it. When he hit the switch on the power supply, the gun pod started firing, rapidly moving backward across the flight deck. He got it shut down just before it took him over the side.

After that little incident, the air bottle valves were safety-pinned to 'off' when they were loaded, and a huge sign was velcroed across the power plug warning that it was loaded.

Wish I had video of that ride. Bet the guy had a laundry problem afterwards...

Folks, this is not a gun thread.

Gun discussions are allowed here only as they pertain to our Airstreams.

Or airplanes? I spend a lot of my time around hardware like this, but it's only for show. Those guns were silenced years ago.

Shiny object:

I always relate the silver railroad cars to the Airstreams...simply because in many ways they are quite similar. And, when i travel around the country in my AS, I often photograph trains.

Thought this was a nice "Breakfast Club" topic....LOL

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles are always appreciated on The Breakfast Show.

Here's another plane. It's not silver, but when you're this large, who cares?

Captain "G" is another hangar friend, and an incredible writer who contributes to the aviation rag I edit. A really, really, nice guy too. My mouth dropped when I saw this photo from his flying days.

What an airplane!

Planes, huh?

OK, so, the EAA Airventure for 2017 conflicts with the WBCCI International in Michigan. Very tough decision, but at my age I think i need to get to Airventure before i cannot hold the huge camera I use to capture aircraft from afar.
as in this camera...

So, it looks like I might have to cancel the International, but will be at Camp Scholler in my AS, enjoying every minute.

Cannot help myself...from the museum, a shiny object:

Yep. Me too, although I think this year the camping will be in Camp Scholler with the Overlander rather than under the wing at the "Beech Party." Now, to try and score one of those electric sites...

Windsor, On. 68f inside, 21f outside. Walmart. Furnace ran continuously all night. Raisin bran for breakfast. Same suffering as the Fraser Valley. Can't get south fast enough. Jim

Hey Jim,
The Fraser Valley is under a snowfall warning. But...it's supposed to warm-up and turn to rain on Monday.

Send up a photo of that soon-to-be-there beach!

Safe travels.

Celibrating my sons 48th birthday today with a bike ride to Lighthouse Point north of Fort Lauderdale. He had a granola bar for breakfast. I had fruit loops. Hope that qualifies for a Breakfast show entry, FAN.
