If you want to see my geezer column it is in today's Daily Sentinel of Grand Junction in the op/ed section. The first one was about 6 to 8 weeks ago and I am too lazy to look it up. I don't know how the search function works on their website. I believe the Sentinel copyrights each paper so I'm not supposed to copy them here, though I wonder what they would do to me?
Thanks for the compliments, though it makes me question your judgment and sanity. But it is good to be among fellow loonies (and I don't mean the Canadian dollar).

Thanks for the link, Otra.
A timely and sage opinion, Gene.
If you don't mind a friendly critique, I would have also mentioned the plague of age-related loneliness and the paucity of geriatric psychiatric care in general.

I feel like I highjacked your thread. Those other issues are also important and there is a lot to write about. I also sent one on hiking while old to another publication. I never thought I’d be a spokesperson for geezers, but just fell into it. I guess since my balance isn’t what it used to be, that figures.
What passes for sanity sometimes is not. People who have trouble succeeding in my country are thought of badly, but maybe they are the smart ones. If you are loony, love it!

Good fodder for another column, Gene.
BTW, this is the feel free to hijack thread. Speaking of which, can anyone recommend things to do and see in Miami? Flying friend is taking his wide-body sim training down there (he isn't a terrorist - is a bona fide airline pilot) and would appreciate some suggestions.

. . . guess you have been fodder on down the road?
PS -- Good one FAN! No Miami experience since the late 60's, but I would look for really good Cuban eateries IMO.

I was outlining some sights in Miami from our days visiting when my parents lived near there, but that was 20+ years go and much may have changed. Just about finishing up the post, the page "reloaded" and my post disappeared. I never much liked Miami preferring mountains and cooler weather, but a trip to Key West or the Everglades is cool. I-95 is a very busy highway with insane drivers (a Florida tradition—try I-4 from Orlando to Tampa). If you like Art Deco architecture and design, Miami Beach has an area with a lot of it and it was becoming the party district in the early 90's. Last time I was in the neighborhood was around 2010 when we took the Airstream down the Keys and visiting Key West. If you like the ocean, sometimes it bubbles up through the sewers in Miami Beach and someday they may have to build a very high seawall around all those islands. The bubbling was even occurring in the mid-90's. The tourist people there could have a slogan—"see Miami before you need a boat!"
The page reloaded again, but I got it back. Better post before the whole thing crashes....

This goes back a few years, we’ll maybe 65 years, and there were two outstanding restaurants in my memory in the Miami Beech area. Joe’s Stone Crabs is still going and an excellent Italian restraint called Gatti’s (which was family run) but may be gone now.

While we’re talking about things that probably disappeared decades ago, I think I read all the Wolfie’s were gone. I first ate at Wolfie’s in the early 1950’s and loved the dill pickles. It was restaurant/deli with NYC style Jewish ethnic foods. German delis in NYC we’re pretty much the same. I visited one of the last ones in Sunny Isles (north of Miami Beach) in the 1980’s and it didn't seem the same, but I wasn’t 12 years old either. Perhaps your friend will be doing a history tour.

Welcome to the Breakfast Show.......
Oh, yes Wolfies Deli!!
There was one in West Palm Beach where I grew up. Last time I was there, I ran into a waiter that had worked for them. He said the family had finally retired and quit the business.
They had amazing food back in the day. The pickles, green tomatoes, and cole slaw were on the table when you sat down. Portions were huge...I never understood how they could make a profit, but they were always busy.

Ugh! They just raised the taxes on gasoline.
Happy Canada Day!
The price hike is not affecting me (yet). No Airstream plans this weekend.
(But am reminiscing about another Canada Day. Life may have been better then: the Airstream was newer, my favourite Beagle was still alive, and gasoline was cheaper!)
