AS Only Campgrounds

My wife, who is not yet a committed Streamer, but there is hope, found some campgrounds only accommodate AS.

It seemed a bit odd to me, but has anyone had any experience with AS only sites? The article made some good points.

Hi

Well, I guess "odd" all depends ...

Sitting here in the middle of one, it seems like a fine idea. Lots of great people and a common interest in Airstreams. Very quiet, laid back, and peaceful out here in the woods. Better price than the state parks. They even will chug over with a golf cart and lug your propane bottle over to the fill station if it needs it. (I'm watching that process as I lounge back and type.) What's not to like It's actually a pretty good way to swap info on this and that way to use an AS. Not quite as intense as a rally, but still fun.

.... well ... there *is* a thunderstorm coming. They *could* have taken care of that

Haven't been to an Airstream-only campground, but I know of at least five within two days' travel of my home.

I had the same question.
I know I'd go out of my way to find one.
Airstreamers like quiet, and are like minded.

As long as we don't talk about hitches, TV's and tires.

So, Uncle Bob, just curious which park you are visiting?

I've only been to one AS only park and enjoyed it very much. I'm planning a visit to another one this fall. Very reasonable rates and great people who have a common interest.

At first I thought it a bit 'odd' because it was excluding others that appreciate the RV life. I'm not against exclusivity, but this is camping. All should be welcome in my view.

Although, I can see where there would be advantages.

And yes, I'm opinionated. As long as you agree with me, you would be right!! LOL

Some of them are a bit flexible. For example, Land Yacht Harbor in Melbourne, Fl allows non-AS's as transient visitors. I think you MUST have an AS to buy a share. Others may allow a non-AS that is traveling with you to stay. So there is some flexibility so when in doubt ask.

So, these are literally Airstream only? Does Argosy count?
If I pulled up in my '78 Avion or '64 Silver Streak I'd get turned away? Do I at least get to camp at the back of the park?

For some reason this concept seems a bit gross to me.

We had a great experience at VHH and we don't even own anything AS-esque, yet!

I am curious though about the various parks' policies towards "relatives", like those mentioned above or say a Bowlus Road Chief.

Hi

Sitting here at Penn Woods. Drop in for a beer if you are near by

Big thunderstorm just took out power to a bunch of the local area. Not much to do but grouse about it

We have been to Land Yacht Harbor Airstream Park in Mebourne several times - and have made reservations for a month this coming winter asmweeas a few weeks at Topsail Hill in Destin.

Many folks don't care for it, as it has a pretty strict no kids no pets rule - but that happens not to be an issue for us at present, so not a concern.

There are not a lot of facilities - no showers, but there are toilet facilities in the community building.

There is wifi, coverage - spotty, but may be expanding soon, and the park is kept in immaculate condition.

The rates are pretty attractive!

Quite a few decent beaches in Melbourne with free parking and toilet facilities.

I believe the park may at one time have been exclusive to Airstreams, but now they make a certain % of the sites open to use by SOB trailers / motorhomes.

All sites have full hookups.

Hi

Here they are ok with pets (2 max) and kids. Unlike the state parks, booze is not off limits. We don't have a space launch facility just up the road or cool beaches like Melbourne. That's not my biggest gripe though. You used to be able to get oysters on the half shell for 5 cents each just up the road from Melbourne. I believe that the three of us ate maybe a billion of them ... We don't have that here either

Of this, I am well aware thank you. Just seeing if these places were strict enough to only allow "real" Airstreams.

I guess if I really want to go to a place that is elitist enough to only allow one brand of a whole genre of travel trailer and the Airstream I do own isn't ready for the road, I'll just bring along my AS emblems and pop them on my Avion and test the knowledge of the host... except, again, I don't think I'd really want to go to a place that only allows one type of thing. It seems... alumisist.

Don't be upset with the park. Blame the inconsiderate dog owners that will not control the barking or refuse to clean up after their little precious.
