Very nice. Are those places available to anyone who wishes to boondock? I assume it’s free?

Yep, totally free.
Not like the old days, tho. Many places you are now restricted to designated areas. Many western National Parks and Monuments list nearby boondocking areas on their web sites under "camping".
Here's a couple more (Left to Right):
Comb Wash, east of Natural Bridges National Monument. Designated BLM boondocking area with pit toilets.
Map, Valley of the Gods, outside of Mexican Hat, UT. BLM area where camping permitted.

Bob, was the Bryce Photo at "George's Gift" disbursed area to the right just before entering the park? If so, just a heads up to everyone...that area has been closed to overnight camping. Really a bummer, I loved it there and right at the park entrance. :-(

And the winner is...
Welcome to February folks. Some great-looking spots submitted, thanks to all who participated! I chose as the winner, this one from SteveNdebbie. One of the great things about boondocking can be the view...and this one nails it! Congrats, and you are hereby nominated to start the new thread and topic for February contest!

January 2020 Photo Contest
Thank you pcskier for choosing my photo and for the forum members appreciative comments. That shot was one of our favorites.
For this months photo contest we would like to see pictures of unusual things you saw on your travels or things you didn’t expect to see. It could include your Airstream but not mandatory. If relevant, we would love to know the location so others can enjoy seeing what you encountered. For example, I wish I had a picture of my wife crawling through the storage hatch door to get us back into our Safari after the third time I locked us out :/ But alas, I wasn’t thinking at the time. Here is the picture of her after the incident regrouping
This just so happens to be the place of the winning photo.
Here is one of our most surprising finds of our trip. We saw this mural at the Conoco gas station on 212 in Ashland, MT. This is only one small section done by a Native American artist:

Hi pcskier.
Our campsite was about 1 mile down the USFS 117 road from its intersection with UT12. This intersection is approximately half way between Dave's Hollow (USFS 87 road) and the Red Canyon Visitor Center at: 37.71963,-112.25530. We had good cell signal strength (T-Mobile).
There are many, many campsites along USFS 117 road. The area is a designated boondocking area and was listed on the Bryce Canyon NP website as an overflow camping area.
You'll be sure to find a good spot in the area.
The closure you noted was for an area between the Dave's Hollow Guard Station and Bryce Canyon NP's boundary. If you continue South on the USFS 87 road past Dave's Hollow you come to Tropic Reservoir and King Creek Campground. The campground was open and empty, with water and a dump station, in Oct 2019.
There is a USFS trailhead for the 3021 and 3022 trails inside the campground which access several areas of the pinnacles for which Bryce Canyon is so famous. While the scale of the scenery is smaller, you can get up close and personal with the pinnacles--something you can't do in the NP. We saw NO ONE on the trail, while Bryce itself was chock-a-block full of folks. And since it is USFS you can take your pup dogs on trail!
USFS 3021 Trail out of King Creek Campground:

Congrats on your beautiful photo for January's win.
You're idea for February sounds like lots of fun.
You'll want to start a new thread in the photography section which is under lifestyle and just title it February 2020 Photography contest so we can all play along.
