January 2020 Photo Contest

Alrighty then, welcome to the new decade! Hopefully filled with awesome Airstream adventures. With that in mind, This month’s topic is: Boondocking! Only one rule: a night spent NOT in a campground or RV Park. Out in the woods, on a beach, in the desert, even a memorable truck stop—just not in a campground.

I’ll start. Here’s an incredible spot where I spent 11 blissful nights last May in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument near Escalante, Utah. If you haven’t visited, put it on your list for the southwest. Amazing area. Can’t pick my favorite so I’ll post two. Feel free to do the same! Shout out to forum member westcoastas (Jeff) for spilling the beans on the secret location when I met up with him in town that morning. Here is sunset, and sunrise.

Great topic! Looking forward to seeing other’s boondocking spots. We are fairly new at traveling but are finding out we enjoy the dry camping and boondocking more than campgrounds. Here was our first time boondocking on our first big trip. Sorry for so many pics but I had a hard time limiting them (took gobs of pics).

We found free camping on Campendium - Nomad’s View dispersed. Originally we had planned on staying just one night but stretched it to two nights on our trip from Ohio to the West Coast.Click image for larger version

The first thing you do after you turn off the road and onto the drive is to open the Barbwire gate, pull through, get back out and close the gate so the cows don’t get out.Click image for larger version

I love it. Photo's of "Boondocking" in the actual boondocks.

1st two photo's are in AZ. 2011 prior to our renovation, near the North rim of the Grand Canyon. We love AZ for there awesome places to disperse camp (Boondock).

2nd two photo's are last year at a favorite boondocking spot just below Cherry Lake, CA. after our renovation.

We don’t boondock for more than a night or two at a time because we both work full time and require reliable connectivity. However when we do we try to find really cool places, such as this vineyard in Yakima, Washington.

Keep the pics coming, I love seeing them!

We always travel with full propane for the furnace and hot water heater and are comfy to 0 F. Water is ok to just below freezing. We run the furnace when moving or sitting if it is colder than freezing. We do not boondock by choice in winter but sometimes just get caught by accident during the shoulder seasons. Plus, if you drive a Jeep, you must be prepared for the thing to break. Jim
