Yamaha SC2300i

Looking for input current owners on a Yamaha SC2300I Inverter generator, Dependability, ease of starting, compatibility with your Airstream. Is it worth paying the price for a Honda, why or why not. Thank you very much

Yamaha makes a great generator, as does Honda and Champion. Guess the question is more what your looking to do with it? I had the Champion 3400 Dual Fuel for couple years and it worked great to fire up either of my AC's on our 28'. I got tired of the weight (95lbs) so I sold it and purchased a new H2200 from Genconnex with propane conversion done by them. Came with a 3 year factory warranty and they are endorsed by Honda. This will fire up either my 13000AC or my 15000AC(which has the Easystart on it) without any issues. It is half the weight of the Champion at 45lbs, stores easily in the back of the truck, and runs either directly plugged into the AS quick disconnect port in front or the portable 20# bottle I also carry. I would also consider the new Champion 2500...several folks now using this model.

I selected dual EU2000i Honda Companion parallel units 12 years ago, zero issues. This configuration meets the power requirement and I can pickup the individual units without straining my back. Very quiet & dependable..

Not available at the time, I like the EU2200 even better.

I'm guessing you're not exactly looking at a Yamaha, but the "AI Power SC2300i" because the Yamaha model is EF2200iS. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but I don't think they're fully equivalent. The AI Power one is either a licensed design of the engine or they're buying the engines from a Yamaha factory and building the rest. In any event the power section and customer support is this AI Power company rather than Yamaha.

I was considering buying the previous version of that generator several years ago when I wanted to move from a big 3k that is heavy and doesn't fit under the tonneau on the truck to parallel lighter-weight units, but Costco wasn't carrying them right around the time I was ready to buy, and ended up with a pair of Briggs & Stratton generators that have served me well. The newer model seems to have increased the peak wattage quite a bit and the continuous wattage somewhat. They seem to still be using the 79cc Yamaha engine design.

PS: That said (about the distinction between the AI Power and the Yamaha), my "old" generator is a somewhat high-hours Yamaha EF3000iSEB that has been amazingly reliable for me. Just never leave fuel in the carburetor of any of these if you run gasoline through them. Run the bowl dry.
