^^^^^+1 on this model! If you have 50 amp service, that model will cost a little more and the ending number will 50X.

Shop around and you'll save some bucks. I bought my 30amp model from the Progressive Industries Amazon site below. Their price of $267.94 with free shipping is pretty good.

Looks like I'd need the Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X since I have two ACs and a 50 amp hookup.

I see the EMS-PT50X is on the camping world website. Anyone know if they tend to carry them in the stores?

Steve

Called the closest store and they are mail order only, not carried in the stores. Argh.

Probably not the first time a dealer has given lousy advice IMO.

That bad advice calls into question his competency, and trustworthiness for future decisions and warranty repairs, in my opinion. Food for thought -- FWIW.

Glad you are getting a new unit. Amazon could send this overnight to your next stop:

Good luck!

Hi Peter,

Our next stop is another Ohio State Park. How would I go about doing that?

Thanks,

Steve

When I had the Xantrex Freedom 3012 converter/charger/inverter iinstalled, I was told by the vendor that my warranty would be considered void if I didn't use a surge protector. It's like insurance - you only need it when you NEED it.

Stayed at an Army Corp of Engineers campground near Mammoth Cave this week and our Camcorder 30A Power Defender tripped on both the 30A and 50A plugs within minutes of being connected. The park ranger said “those things don’t work and you should just remove it.” We did not accept that answer and asked to have maintenance check the post or we would not stay. Maintenance found the post wiring and plugins were all badly burnt, cheerfully replaced everything, and thanked us for making them aware of the problem. My Power Defender never tripped again during the three days we stayed there.

Whats a stereo?

We're not full timers. Leave the good stuff at home.
Not sure I could replace the TVs and microwave that come with the Airstream for $250. I would love to shop where you shop.

Make sure you get a lock when you get it. They are expensive and so at least want to make them somewhat difficult to rip off.. Also make sure you get the 30 AMP adapter to go on the end.

My dealer, who carries and installs EMS's, asks me nicely each time I am in, "When do you want me to install one?"

They are like buying insurance, you don't regularly need it but one of the first questions asked when it is needed is, "Was the payment made?"

It's like gambling, you don't always get the big strike.

I would call that location and ask if they are set up to receive packages like this. You might have to choose another location further along on your route, in order to make the process work, like a full-hookup campground where you are planning to stop. Obviously you don't want to create another problem with a missed delivery.

Good luck,

Peter

Amazon offers several delivery options such as lockers in some cities. In Canada they will deliver to most post offices.

Even with the $$$$, it's worth it.👍

“Its better to have what you don't need when you need it, than not to have it when you don’t.” or “you may think you don’t need it but when you do….you’ll have it.”

I guess this the latest from Progressive. 30 & 50a
Check #5 in the description👍
In our area we use more at home for 'brown out' protection, boon docking...not so much. 🤗

Locking up the EMS/protector

So I saw a lock on the Camping World website. Looks like it goes around the connection between your power cable and the EMS/Surge protector.

What's to prevent someone from just taking your power cable along with the protector?

Thanks,

Steve

At some point, you have to stop worrying.
The better EMS's have a metal ring around the power cord. I bought a cable lock that fits in the ring and takes a couple turns around the power pedestal. Yes. if a determined thief carries bolt cutters he could take it, but it stops the "I need one of those" thief.

Or get a hardwired version that's harder to steal and impossible to forget.

The only problem I have with the hardwired surge protector is that in the event of a major power surge, the surge protector itself may fry. I'd rather it fry OUTSIDE my rig than inside where it may cause a fire. Yes, I know the probability is low, but so is winning a major lottery - I don't, but there are some people who do.

Yes. Think of a surge protector like a seatbelt. By the time you know you need one, it will be too late.
