It’s been awhile since the last post here and I am not accustomed to using this part of the forums. I just noticed the other Dennis’ (Roberts) comment concerning theft of personal property from a disconnenected trailer. Fortunately for those of us insured with USAA our personal property is covered any where under our homeowner’s policy. But my concern would be fire, theft, and comprehensive coverage (hail, etc.) for the Airstream itself. I believe items like boats, motorcycles, and trailers are excluded in the homeowners policy. Definitely worth reading our policies!

Steve, regarding your tow vehicle's insurance ability to 'cover' your AS, I just read another Air Forums post that is on point. AtomicNo13 wrote of a recent AS theft in Las Vegas. Apparently, the owner did not have a separate trailer policy - instead relying on the tow vehicle's policy. The theft claim was denied because the AS was not connected to the tow vehicle at the time of the theft. Oh my!

Steve, I apologize for the tardy response. I initially contacted Progressive through USAA - was connected to a USAA-dedicated unit at Progressive. The USAA rep clearly said that USAA does not directly insure RVs (i.e. no discussion of covering under a USAA auto policy). At Progressive, I spoke with an RV specialist (Progressive employee / insurance licensed) who engaged me in a comprehensive discussion of options and costs. A good experience - have renewed twice with plans to continue doing so. I take comfort that Progressive is operating under USAA-set service standards.

I recommend that you revisit the current situation where your Airstream is covered under your auto policy - just doesn't seem right to me.

Hi Steve. We have used USAA for all our insurance needs for 47 years. They have been terrific on the rare occasion we’ve needed to file a claim. For both my motorcycle and Airstream coverage they sent us to Progressive. Progressive and USAA appear to have some type of cooperative agreement.

We have had two Airstream only damage claims and both were handled (exceptionally well) entirely through Progressive. No rate increase.

We pay Progressive directly but the policy is listed along our all other insurance policies (homeowners, auto, valuable property, umbrella) on our USAA online account. My insurance cards for the autos are from USAA but we understand none is required for a trailer.

It is my understanding that the Progressive policy covers only loss to the Airstream and that liability to others (property & casualty, personal injury) are covered by the tow vehicle. You should check to see if that is correct. I hope I answered your question.
