Fit right in on my safari 27. All I had to do was cover a little where the old hood came out. Wires were there

Im confused. Our 22FB has no current vent hood (unless you count the Fantastic Fan). I believe you are going boldly where no man has gone...to paraphrase. So you are not replacing an existing vent hood, you are installing new from scratch. Just clarifying to other readers who may not know.

So, you likely have some 12vdc off the JVC radio overhead. That's the easy part. I think the cutting of the interior and exterior wall is the biggie. As I look at my rig, I think a vent hood would be nice and look great but is it worth the work and possible leaks and weight on the overhead cabinet? Just some personal questions for myself.

I like to cook on an older Coleman gasoline stove outside on a picnic table using cast iron cookware. The wife likes the microwave convection oven and the Fan Fan will be helpful to remove the smells. So I applaud your efforts and look forward to some photos when you complete the task. For me - I will just keep what I got and get a vent when we move to a 23FC.

yes

this is a NEW install.
i confirm with CANAM, that the exhaust would fit, work and be usable

when we cook inside, the smoke detector goes off to often. as well, food smells linger inside. these are two keys reasons to get the exhaust

good suggestion as to where to get the 12V feed

Hello Back.

Our 2017 Classic came w/a Baraldi exhaust hood. Yes they are made in Italy. For us we are going to replace due to the high level of noise it makes when on. I had hopes of replacing the "fan" in the Baraldi w/a SAM 1-18 unit. However it will not fit. Lets us know how the sound level works for you.

Safe travels

Baraldi fan install a AS 22FB

this is the end of dAY 1. I HOPE TO FINISH ON DAY 2

1st the kit does NOT come with any instructions. One item is a misty on how or where to install

2nd you need to tape down all the leak holes else the fan air will leak into the cabin and not all go out

instead of a saw or tin snips i used a Fein rotary cutter and the holes were cut in 5 mines. not super easy , but not hard

i pressure treated some 1/4 plays to reinforce the outside vent. one rivet in, it will apply silicon around three side to stop water from coming in

here is what it looks like after one day
more pics after days 2

the inside is all done and wired. All is functional expect i have to make a custom shroud to match the inside exhaust hole to the external vent. the external vent cover opening is much larger.

AS does not provide a shroud with the kit (;

if you don't make a custom shroud, a lot of the hot moist air will flow into the insulation between in inner and outer skins

it was very easy to wire the fan to the lights under the kitchen overhead cupboards

job completed

here is what the outside looks like.

The shroud is 1/4'' PT ply wrapped in house wrap tape and then sealed with alum tape.

it s VERY important that the path from the fan to the outside is smooth and has no leaks.

the shroud is taped to both the inside fan /wall and the outside door.
this way, warm moist air cannot enter the space between the inner/outer walls

when the rain stops, i will calk three sides on the outside

You mention caulking with silicon. It will not stay sealed/ does not bond to aluminum and water will get in. Use Silka Flex, parabond, Acryl-R or a sealent made for aluminum.

ok,

tnx for the suggestions

i ordered sika flex 221 and 252 white cartridges from amazon.

i assume the 221 is good for my use instead of silicon.

BTW, i though that there was a clear coat , thus on direct aluminum contact

Did you use mastic tape or jus aluminum foil tape that would be used for dryer/HVAC vents?I don't see any writing on the aluminum tape so I fear you used the wrong thing, due to temperature, grease, and overall nastiness of cooking hood vents you really need to use mastic sealant tape. This would be code mandated in a residential structure, such as Nashua 1461664.

its installed now.
it does suck, ie take the air out
you need another opening to replace the air it takes out otherwise it wont suck much.

an open window or roof vent is fine so that "replacement air" can come in

there is a bit of wobble, it don't think that the OEM balance the fan blade at the factory. next time i have free time, it will take the motor out(that's easy)

The hardest part is NOT making the hole or mounting the fan.

The hard part is making the custom shroud to ensure no air leaks in between the outer and inner skins

There is a piece that come with the fan, but there is NO WAY to get it in between the two skins.

The output of the fan hood is much smaller that the exterior vent opening. thus you have some wiggle room. You should be handy in the workshop in order to fabricate the shroud.
I over did it because i did not want to go back to it later and fix it

I used proper alum tape and not duct tape.

i also used the red house wrap tape over all corners and joints. The tape is used to seal homes to stop air infiltration.
before closing up, i let the shroud sit for a few days. no movement or air leaks

its a done deal now

Now that you are finished and don't need instructions... I find a lot of very detailed instructional videos on YouTube. Installing a Stoett rollup shower curtain was the latest. Various Airstream dealers, especially Colonial, put out a lot of useful info.

Old thread with new question. @waninae39, the Baraldi hood has three wires (white/black/green). The galley light has two wires. What did you do with the third green wire when you tapped the galley light?
