I tried hard to figure how to do this mod to my 2016 Sport 22fb with the aid of this thread, but I re-thought the fit of the “NO WAY” to fit plenum transition piece by exploding the diagram provided in the posts.
There were many long hours of consideration in cutting “just enough, not too much.” While I do have a wood shop of my own, I couldn’t imagine AS would describe and sell a piece for this install that wouldn’t work…..so….this is how I did it.
[See photos]
The interior cut is LARGE, and allows enough room for the plenum transition between the inner and outer skins AND provides a perpendicular surface to mount the fan against the wall (where the fan duct meets the plenum).
The rest is easy peasy and is just how comfortable and competent you can be cutting holes in the skin of your AS.
I did have the AV cable from the radio to the TV and a power (red and white) line to move aside. The most difficult was rerouting the AC drain line (clear plastic tube) which ran straight down the middle of my opening. With effort, I was able to push them around enough to “clear” the area enough to fit the plenum all the way in to rest against the outer skin.
Metal duct tape took care of sealing around the edges in the places the plenum didn’t perfectly fit the contour of the inner skin. It doesn’t match the curve, because it is designed to provide a perpendicular surface for the vent to exit the assembly and enter the plenum. So, the top of the plenum goes in further than the inner skin wall and the bottom is nearly flush to the inner skin.
The plenum touches the outer skin wall and is sealed by a gasket that was provided. The plenum is doubled over [boxed] to provide a backing for the exterior screws at the top AND extended at the bottom at the exterior skin to provide a similar backing for the exterior mounting screws.
SikaFlex and a similar shaped gasket (provided) fit under the exterior vent cover (I sprung for Stainless Steel) provides weatherproofing that I am fully confident in.
I tied the power to the USB supply in the overhead locker adjacent. The light is great (LED) and the fan is not unbalanced on mine as some have said—and not too noisy for us. No loud roar but moves a good amount of air.
I was brave—too much so for my wife to watch the madness of me cutting into the aluminum. But the result is really nice and she is happy, now.
I was too engrossed in the process to get photos of the whole thing, but hope what I have here is enough to help any other brave souls out there.
Installing a Baraldi range hood and saw your electrical answer to a post.
The range hood has 3 wires, green, white and black. The green, ground, attaches to the trailer skin thanks for the post. Which is the hot wire?
thank you
