19 Volts?

Where did you come up with 19 volts? Are you reading it from the univolt? Is there a battery in the trailer?

Pump Wiring

I replaced the pump on my 65 Safari with a Surflo on demand. Just hooked up the same wires and everything works fine. It is normal 12 volt wiring.....Tim

I believe the 64 univolt provided 18.5 volts to the pump and furnace. Atleast thats what I've read on several posts. Hoping there's an easy fix.

Have you replaced your Univolt at all? If not, now's a good time to change over... fix two birds with one ... uh.. stone? That Univolt is HEAVY!

HOWEVER, I thought the early years (my '63 included) didn't have a converter, but rather step down transformers for converting 110 to 12V AC, not DC. If this is the case, you might want to run a positive and negative line to your pump from your battery, putting a fuse in line..

I still have my original Univolt set-up in my 65 Caravel. Yes,my pump and the fans run on about 19 volts AC. The shorepower 120VAC goes into a heavy step-down transformer and two wires emerge: 12VAC and 19VAC. I have 2 switches to throw to go from shore power to battery - one for each voltage feed. The original pump and fans run equally well on 12VDC or 19VAC. I don't expect that your new pump will work on AC at all though. As another poster suggested, you can run it directly off the battery. I can't because my AC Univolt set-up doesn't charge the battery. The Caravel didn't get a rectifier to make DC out of the AC circuit.

Anyway, I like the Univolt transformer hum. OK I lied there, eventually I will change to Intellipower.

Thanks for the advise everybody. I think I'll run it from the battery until I have the funds to upgrade the electrical system. I still have alot to learn about our trailer, she's only bin in the family for about 5 months.
