Trial run
We had a successful trial run in the new toy! It was awesome. Now preparations for the journey across begins. I think I may do a travel blog for it.

Finally received a good pic of the son at work. Been flying in Robert Cross old USMC unit now out of Iwakuni in KC130J. Haven't talked him into a trailer yet, but about half the effort I expend on mine is in hopes of impressing a future wife of his . Ten years and change in the service. Home soon and on to grad school. Maybe I should remind him that sixth generation Texan ain't enough, that the mantle of fourth generation aero aluminum trailer is at stake, ha!

Thanks for posting the picture. He looks like a great young man.
In 1967/68 I few a flew flights out of Iwakuni in Navy P2Vs.
Once in a while they'd forced us off our R&R in Saigon and Cam Rahn Bay and make us go to work in Japan.

As a blue water sailor, I have a lot of respect for what the brown water navy does, especially the SAR stuff. The guys that do that are truly Heroes.....

My husband is a USMC KC-130J pilot as well. We've lived in Corpus Christi...but not in our Airstream...Our new A/C would get worn out there!
I bet your son will catch the bug...it's not a far reach from a riveted plane to a riveted trailer.
My husband's squadron was looking for a new mascot vehicle. Wouldn't an Airstream be perfect?

I think for him it'll come down to going camping with it. Wife and kids he doesn't yet have.
I see the J models going in and out of Carswell, now, and enjoy it every time.

Anyone interested in joining or knowing more about SMART.....Special Military Active Recreational Travelers.......can check out this website for info:
SmartRVing2.org
They are just as active as the Airstream Club but are mostly focused on promoting, upkeep, and traveling to campground/famcamps on military bases. They give an award each year to best campgrounds. They also organize trips overseas and on Space A for retirees.

I'm in, if you don't hold any grudges against officers. I ain't your ordinary, sit at the desk and order people around. 30 years, five deployments, 2 voluntary, all in FOBs or COPs while my contemporaries were deciding what color to paint their offices.
GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY!
