I do not know however you might be able to find out by going to Federal recreation, camping and tour reservation information - Recreation.gov. There customer service number is 877 833 6777. I make all of my federal camping reservation, Nat parks, COE etc through them. He may want to check out the Army MWR "Path Across America" web page. It will show the military camp sites in Georgia. Also try the AF MWR page

Thanks, John. We actually went by one of the USACE parks this afternoon. It's pretty close to us and on Lake Lanier. We asked about a discount for active military and were informed that he could actually stay FREE!! As long as he is on leave and shows his leave papers, there is no charge. Sounds good to me. The only "catch" is that you cannot make reservations online. You must go in person. The attendents were really great and did the reservation for us in his name. When we check in, he just has to show his papers and "Ouila!" Free stay. Really nice sites too. We stayed there when the boys were in elementary school.

That great that he can stay there free. I guess it just us retired folks that have to pay but then again I am old enough for the Golden Age Pass.

Make sure you tell your son to stay safe.

My wife is an Army nurse, returned Monday from her latest deployment. We leave Sat. for 3 weeks of Airstreaming, R&R. Will be making extensive use of MWR campgrounds.

Thanks, everyone for your thanks and thoughts for our son. It has been quite an experience for us as we haven't had anyone in the military since WWII! We can't wait for him to come home and we are really excited to "break-in" the new-to-us Argosy!

Thank you, too, rbr, for your wife's service and your sacrifice.

urnmor - the campground at Shady Grove in Cumming gives a senior discount of 10%. Better than nothing and it's a really nice area.

AF Four Cliff Recreation Area

My wife and I stayed at the AF Four Cliff Recreation area in Humarock MA. It is located on the mouth of the North River and MA Bay. We rented a house there but noted that there were a number of RV hook ups that included electric, water and sewage. It did not have fire rings but campfires were allowed on the beach. The views were breath taking from all of the sights. Next time we go we will take our AS.

Hello everyone! Great thread- I'm currently demobing from Iraq and will be headed to Ft. Rucker to start flight school in October. As I do not currently own an airstream (though I really want one) I'd appreciate any links/help with finding a used unit- my plan is to stay in said trailer for the duration of flight school. All help is welcome!! Thanks and god bless!

Glad I looked

I am glad that I looked at this group. My sonny boy is Recon Marine currently stationed in Okinawa and looks like he will be combat replacement at the end of the month to Afghanistan. I was always thinking as he hit his training sites it would be fun to go and see him there if it were feasible. He just got done with jump school in Georgia, but no way would I go there in June!!!!!!!
His loverly 70 Chevy truck just got a good ding from my hubby heading out to hunt and it and Tin Hut had a collision. It looks like the truck got the worst of it. Hubby said don't tell sonny, he will get it fixed.
So depending on where my boy goes, will tap this group to see what is available in whatever place he may be.

Army MWR Path Across America

I have been trying to access the Army's site "Path Across America" however I am being told that both Yahoo and Mozilla cannot find the Server. Has any one else experienced a similar problem?

I just did a search using the terms "path across America" and "Army" several different ways. It turned up nada. Any other terms you can think of that might apply?

I tried the Army MWR page and various links associated with it but with no luck. It was up and running in August and maybe Sep.

I am going to ask folks worked with to see if they know what happen to the site. I will post here if I find anything out. I can't imagine the only site available is not sponsored by Army MWR but that is progress

Dennis

I suspect it will be tough to find a military facility near Miami especially this time of year. First because there are military bases near Miami and second it is winter time and most sites are booked early. Good lick in you search and if I find anything out I will let you know.

Currently an active duty Advanced Helicopter Flight instructor for the Marines in Pensacola, FL. My Father was a Marine Infantry Officer in Vietnam in the early 70's. He and my Mom introduced my family to Airstreams growing up in the early 80's towing up and down the East Coast. I'm not the only military in my family as my brother was a Police Officer for 5 years and just finished active duty as a Coast Guard search and rescue pilot for 8 years. (He and his wife have a 30' bunkhouse and he's still in the Coast Guard Reserve) Not only are we a military family but we're an Airstream family.

Fast forward to now and I have spent the last 9 1/2 years in the Marines. I did two deployments as a CH-46E helicopter pilot then volunteered to be a Forward Air Controller with an Infantry unit that deployed to Afghanistan last summer. My job was to coordinate and call in close air support for the Marines in Marjah for 5 months and Sagin for 2 months. It was my favorite time in the Marines because I was able to patrol with, get into firefights, and support the young Marines who so selflessly risked their lives each day for our country.

I was lucky enough to get my follow on job as a flight instructor and now I'm full timing in my 2009 27FB Ocean Breeze at a great camp ground in the Pensacola/Milton, FL area. Life is good!!
