Congratulations on the great follow-on assignment to Pensacola. If your training schedule allows, I would like to personally invite you to the Canopener Rally (6-9 Jan). Even if you can't make it for the whole rally, drive over for the Saturday events (Open House, Potluck). We have around 48 Airstreams signed up. Here is a link to the rally thread:

Update Path Across America
I spoke with a friend regarding "Path Across America". This is what he told me:
The site is out-of-date, but you can access it by going to
Deprecated Browser Error . I just went into the site, and it is still
accessible.
The site hasn't been updated for about five years. We hope to contract with
a former employee for the purposes of updating the site.
In the meantime, the phone numbers on the web page and listing of locations
should be, for the most part, usable.
Alternatively, you can purchase a copy of "Military RV, Camping & Outdoor
Recreation Around The World" from Military Living Publications. You can
purchase on-line by emailing customerservice@militaryliving.com, or going to
their web site at HOME.
I hope this helps

Military living is out of the RV booklet however they said they were in the process of updating it. The web site said it will be out later this year.

Strange how I can always remember the birthday of the United States Marine Corps. And I'm not even a Marine. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I raised my ARMY right hand on their 200th birthday. Do the math, that officially makes me an old fart.
Almost forgot. Semper Fi, and thank you for your service to our country.

This sends like the perfect thread to mention that our 3 deployed kids all made it home from afghanistan safely within the last several weeks. 2 Army, 1 Marine. Breathing easier now.

5 blue Stars
Thanks to all and yes, my Inner Hippie is Happy.
We actually had 5 kids (counting son and daughter in laws) in the service. wowza Our oldest daughter left the Navy as a LT last year and is currently teaching flight ops on simulators in Jacksonville. Her husband is a LT Commander and flies P3's. Currently in Honduras. The two Army above (that just returned) are our son (new SGT) and his wife, both Combat Medics. The Marine, well...he's a Marine . Kidding, Corporal and smart as a whip with computers...
Happy Freedom folks. God Bless the Military!

5 Blue Stars
Now that's what I call a Blue Star Family. Susan's mom has a Blue Star pin from WW2 with 5 stars. Her dad was one of 5 brothers that served. One was shot down over the English channel and didn't make it home. He was a US Navy pilot detailed to the RAF during the battle of Britain (wasn't that called the Eagle Squadron, can't remember). All the rest made it back safely. Talk about a great group of guys. My father-in law was a B17 navigator. 35 mission over Europe and two DFC's. Sadly, we lost him on June 6, 2005. Another brother was at Pearl Harbor on December 7th. Another was at the Arden during Christmas, 1944.
It's amazing to me that folks don't know about Blue Star families these days. Good on you guys for being part of the organization.
We are a one star family. Our son-in-law returned from his second tour in June. 101st Airborne. Eagle Scout. Wonderful guy. I love that kid.
Thanks for serving, folks.
Jim

It is almost comical how many people ask us what the blue star stickers we have on our vehicles mean. They just don't know anymore. Ahhhhh well, we know!

Chuck & Skye,
Almost...but not quite, really sad to realize how little the civilian population is invested in our Armed Forces. The Military Families are the REAL 1%.
My Dad was Military, passed in 1972. While getting his dress uniform ready for the Funeral I found this in the breast pocket.
All that's old is new again.
H.C. Crosse Maj. USA
RIP Dad

Wow, an amazing note. My Dad passed a while back too. 20 years Navy. I never enlisted but did 34 Years working for the DoD in ships, subs and lastly helicopters (actually, they asked me to come back for a year or so so...there I am again) I know that what we do at these shipyards and depots, helps keep the Warriors alive. Always interesting to see a chopper come in with battle damage and look at the reverence the workers have, that get to work on it. You can see people just stop and run their hands over the holes and just drop their heads for a few seconds. Honorable work.
Think I will go get a beer now. Enjoy the rest of The Day!

One very cool thing is the internet. Facebook , e-mail, etc...all of those things, allowed me to see the kids were making occasional posts. So even if it was not a note to me, it was a note, and meant they were ok... Skye and I spent a lot of time looking for those posts...

Wow, lots of kids and grandkids here this weekend. But big highlight, our young Marine just waked thru the door. We had no idea he was coming too. Creep called me as he was coming down the street and pretended he had to hang up as he got to the gate. Turns out he was pulling in the driveway.
