I installed this today:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Think I spent $118.
Easy install and it works great. Tied it into the license plate light, so if the runners are on, it's on.

Just returned from a 2200 mile FL trip today. Still very happy with my setup. Makes taking my lane in heavy traffic a simple and fret-less endeavor.

I have gotten into the habit of using it for a rear view mirror.

Yesterday for the first time Mrs HiHo hooked up the truck to our '63 using our backup camera. When she was done she almost puked from looking down at the image while backing up.
I didn't see that one coming.

In the current Blue Beret, Airstream is installing the Voyager during the month of April for just the cost of the system (installation free). I've been booked for April since last November and installation of this camera was on our list. Now the install is free! This doesn't qualify for the "won the lotto" thread but feels good to me! Anyone else going in April and thinking about this system should not throw out your latest Blue Beret mag!
(Edit - this is at the mothership - not your local dealer, though you could always check...)

My first attempt at a 24ghz wireless camera had the camera hard wired from the trailer rear to the front window of the trailer to the antenna/transmitter- it still did not matter. That is why I ended up going with the digital voyager wireless solution

Yep.
If you're gonna hard wire the wireless transmitter from the rear of the trailer to the front of the trailer you could just have a wired camera.
I wonder if I could use the Voyager system the same way I use my current system- 1 monitor (the vehicle's head unit/radio) for both the truck's backup camera and the trailer's rear view camera.
Does the mother ship understand our emotional connections to our trailers better than your average car stereo shop?
The dirty hand print on my head board has emotionally traumatized me/scarred me for life...

Hi Larry,
Can I ask where you bought the digital Swift Hitch?
I have an older Swift Hitch that has never performed well even just when using it to hook up the trailer - lots of signal break up to the point that it is frustrating and almost useless!
I would consider a new unit if I were convinced that it worked much better!
Other than that I am wondering if it is possible to somehow extend the camera antenna of my present Swift Hitch to get it closer to the monitor and maybe get a more reliable signal.
I only use it to hook up, and if I had to, I could live with a 10 foot piece of coax from the camera held with the opposite end someplace closer to the truck cab and held with a suction cup! Don't know if that would work at all, maybe I will experiment!
I very much would like a reliable backup camera to help in hooking up the Hensley!
I have tried contacting Swift Hitch through their website, but so far no success. The website doesn't seem to indicate if their current unit - listed at $219 is digital or not - it looks exactly the same as the one I already have!
Brian.

Brian,
The website model is still analog. You will have to keep trying to contact them and ask to buy the digital. I suspect they have not built enough units for open marketing. The digital model is rock solid even from the back of the trailer.

Works fine from the back of my Vantage up to monitor in my extended cab pickup - that's at least 45' with alot of metal in between.

On our recent 3-month tour of the Southwest we discovered that the DW is the aces when it comes to backing up to hitch up. With me giving a couple of signals it takes her less than a minute to get things lined up. Who knew?!

Better than a backup camera:

So I take it that you bought it direct from Swift Hitch in Newton Ma?
Sounds encouraging! Maybe I will try phoning them, I've tried a couple of times emailing them at the address given and my emails just bounce - seems like sort of a bad sign!
Today I just downloaded a $0.99 App for my iPod and iPad that allows one to be used as a camera and one as a monitor.
It works over Wifi and also over Bluetooth. I have tried it in the house on both wifi and bluetooth and it isn't bad.
There is a slight lag, but seems less than a second so I don't think it would prevent use as a backup camera if it is otherwise suitable
I already have a suction cup bracket that will hold my iPod so I will test it out stuck on the truck tailgate with the iPad on the dash!

Andy,
Any experience with wired cameras--so I can see behind me while towing as well as backing up?

Sorry it took me 2 months to answer. I made it. it was a simple process of taking a new light fixture, drilling a hole and having a correctly sized rubber grommet to fit in the hole THEN feeding the wiring through to the power. Everything fit like a glove. The rest was cutting and soldering and attaching as a replacement for the original. I cringed at drilling into the trailer to mount the camera but it works and serves the purpose.

We have been on the road for about 10 weeks and around 8,500 miles. Overall, I am satisfied with the Voyager wireless camera setup.
We have not driven at night, so I cannot comment on the effect of headlight glare on the picture.
The few times that it rained while we were driving, there was some degradation of the quality of the picture. It was still usable, but just not as clear as when not raining. I attribute this to the dirty mist that gets on the camera lens. When it dries, the image improves. Wiping the lens face, after the rain stops, restores the image to its original quality.
The camera and the receiver connect every time.

I often thought it would be beneficial to have a wrap around camera system (for security reasons) mounted discreetly around the perimeter of the AS with a monitor inside so I could check on 'bumps in the night' without going outside.
Sound like with an additional monitor in the AS this would be easy!?
