I belonged to HH for a couple of years, but also found they did not suit particularly my solo travel style, and in a small rig.

The expectation that you partake of whatever the Hosts are offering is appropriate, but not necessarily conducive to me and my limited storage space.

They also raised their membership fees quite a bit.

If you are pretty steady consumers of wine, this could be a good deal for you.

I had one Walmart manger tell me no after several previous stops were yes. He said they quit RVs park there when a nearby truck stop opened. I went over there and stayed amongst the trucks, but I sure did not feel welcome.

What I have noticed locally is that Walmart as they build new stores are in plazas owned by other developers. So in many cases Walmart has no responsibility as to who parks in the lots. Secondly many of these developers are realizing that those RV'ers partaking of parking are in areas of the lots that typically are used by few vehicles. That's unproductive property and for example, the parking area at my local Walmart where RV's used to park in was roped off. Sign's were posted offering that area for out lot buildings. Construction started a few weeks back and that RV parking area will become the home of a new Panda Chinese restaurant.

Also many municipalities are also pushing back by prohibiting RV or 18 wheeler overnight parking.

We stopped at Walmart in Saint George, UT and the parking lot was clearly posted no truck or RV parking.... found a nicer spot at Cracker Barrel.

On my current cross US trip I have stayed at two Walmarts and been refused at two.

My experience was generally good.

Thought at one, some local kid rode his or her dirt bike with loud pipes around the four of us parked there at about 8pm for about 15 minutes. I ignored it and whoever it was went away. At the one in Hannibal, MO I think one of the employees was not happy with us parking there and at 6:30 am parked in the space next to my trailer and blasted their horn. I'm not sure what they were thinking because their car remained parked there after they went into work.

Our Walmart experiences have been ok with our worst not being quite as bad as above.

They are a relief valve for unscheduled stops. And on our last trip out West, we had to oportunity to stay at full hook ups on gravel. But after a week camping on gravel, we decided to do the Walmart to have pavement under us and grass for the dog. He really misses grass.

We stayed at a VFW outside Abilene, TX last month coming home from WY. It was not bad, showers, bar, some food, gas near by...was $35. We also use RV Parky and Wrights Guide to low cost camping sometimes, to stay for a night here or there boondocking...have not had too much trouble finding spots this year so far...we are in North Beach above St. Augustine last 3 nights, heading for Top Sail tomorrow then to Henderson in Destin...on to Acadiana in Lafayette, LA for last night before heading to Georgetown. Just not into Walmart parking lots for some reason...

GA to Colorado

Last October I made a 6 day, 3500 mile round trip from Savannah to Colorado Springs, CO. Purpose was to get things from storage in CO and bring to my new home in GA.

I stayed in Walmart parking lots on the entire trip except for the casino in West Memphis, AR. Only campground I used was at the Air Force Academy where I dumped my holding tanks and unexpectedly, had to change the coach batteries.

I use an app that is mostly up to date with places to boondock and never had a problem. I tend to avoid truck stops because they are loud and if not careful, you can get blocked in sometimes.

Allstays actually has a second app called ONP WalMart, for WalMart over night parking.
