Thanks for the generous offer, but we can't make it this year either.

We are taking ours to the Earth Rocker Festival in Inwood, WV in May to see Clutch. Should be a good time. We are going to Hershey in August to see Guns N Roses.

I was lucky enough to be in Red Lodge, MT. when the state fiddling championship was held at the high school auditorium.
It was one of my fondest memories. First, Red Lodge is very cool, the kind of western town where there's horse poop on main st. and nobody cares!
The high school auditorium reminded me of my high school gym. Baskets suspended from pipes in the ceiling, about 8 rows of bleachers, and a small stage on one end for school plays.
The night I went was for the 8-16 yr old class, and they were dressed in their finest jeans and plaid shirts and of course cowboy hats. The girls in petticoats.
My gosh, they could play.
It was a real slice of Americana, and restored my faith in real America. Good folks.

Yeah, Hershey has its own campground just down the main road from the park and run a shuttle back and forth. See http://www.hersheyparkcampingresort.com/.

That is just the best experience when you stumble across something like that and can take advantage of it.

My exwife and I were in Edinburgh, Scotland many years ago when we returned from a day of sightseeing to a crowded city. Turns out the Military Tattoo at the Edinburgh Castle was going on that evening. We were able to snag a couple of tickets. What a great experience.

To all.

I have a campsite reserved at Bandits Roost campground to attend Merlefest the last weekend in April. This is one of the best Bluegrass music plus festivals there is. Contact me if you would like this reservation. I can tell you all about how to get tickets, etc. for this festival.

With recent wind chills here in the NE around -12F, planning for Spring festivals seems like a good idea!

Anyone going to Merlefest, Bonnaroo, Green River or Hershey? Any other suggestions, particularly in the NE? Does Wind Gap still exist? Falcon Ridge?

Grabbed some quotes from this and other threads, to get the ball rolling:

The parking lot is across the street from the Bonnaroo VIP entrance which opens at 7am on Thursday, so it is super convenient, free, and full of entertainment.

Safe and fun for sure, but definitely not quiet. Manager of the Walmart said he makes more money that Wednesday than he makes on Black Friday.

We will be at MerleFest, and most likely FloydFest. Hope to see you there! I'll be camping at the VFW campground for MerleFest. Can't beat the price & the free shuttle to the fest.

We will be at Floydfest again. Usually 5 or 6 AS there as well as 2 GMC MHs and a '38 or so Pierce Arrow trailer.

BTW, Dead and Company are rumored to be at Lockn this year, as well as WSP. We will be there too.

the house band

Just a heads up, the U of O/Oregon Country Fair house band will be returning to Autzen Stadium this year. https://deadandcompany.com/ Looks likes they're crossing the USofA too. With the Dead Head/prankster per capita probably higher here than even Marin or Sonoma Counties, I'm sure the town and Autzen will be at capacity.

Side story, I used to be a manager at an upscale resort above the Sonoma Coast and Micky and his wife would always come for his birthday retreat... Res for Michael Hart please...oh and can you decorate the cake to look like a drum. Most guests were unaware.

I am thinking of getting some investors together to throw some sort of festival here in upstate NY, probably in July this year.

We were thinking music festival to attract young & young at heart or maybe a burning man style event?

A third option was to make it a RV type event.

The venue is about 200 acres with a medium size permanent stage.
The land is mostly flat fields that will support RV's of any size. There are no hookups but there are shower and bathrooms on site.

Any thoughts?

Great idea but it will take more planning and permits than could be accomplished in a few months IMO. More like a year or two of lead time probably, at least to do it legally in such a way that the investment could be amortized over 10-20 years, which is what an investor will expect.

2020? A nice round figure! Hope to still be breathin' by then . . .

Good luck!

Peter

PS -- Is your photo of the proposed site, and is that a festival already held there?
