**Edited to add Sunday's potluck**
At Thursday's potluck, we'll bring brownies. We should arrive at the park just about when this potluck starts.
Saturday is TBD.
Sunday, we'll bring bacon.
Looking forward to it!

I would think the ranger wants the water to trickle to keep the campground faucet from freezing. Disconnect your water hose, reconnect it when it warms. Hope everyone has a good time, the days will be warm enough. The ranger is responsible for the park. Let your AS friends give you advice on the cold, there will be some with experience and will know what to do. Don't let the cold ruin the experience, let it be part of it. Memories. Peace, jim

setting up at Topsail
Rodsterinfl and Geowickey:
Topsail has full hookups on each site, you will have water and sewer.
When you arrive, don't hesitate to ask any Airstream folks around you how to do your hookups.....there are a lot of really experienced folks here, one of the great benefits of attending.
Basically you will have water available at your site, so hook up your city water hose on arrival. When deep freeze conditions exist, the rangers will come around and request you disconnect your fresh water hose from the faucet and they will set the faucet to "trickle" water all night so the fixture does not freeze and burst. Suggest you disconnect your hose from your trailer also.
Prior to deep freeze condition, suggest you put some city water in your fresh water tank so you will have some available for the short time you are disconnected from city water. No big deal really and only lasts for the deep freeze period.
Tom

Conditions at Topsail
The beach was absolutely beautiful yesterday, and we should have good but cooler weather today.
Folks are beginning to trickle in, there are probably 10 or so Airstreams here as of this morning.
Remember that welcome packets will not be available until Thursday. See Greg/Pat at site 154.
Looking forward to seeing you all.
Tom and Robin on site 122.

First time at Canopener and our first time using the trailer further than 1 mile from the house, so thank you for answering all those first timer questions!
We will be coming in Friday and would love to attend PizzaChop's pizza/music gathering, can we bring anything?
Re: Potlucks: would someone please add us to the list?
For the Saturday potluck we will be bringing Taco Soup
For the Sunday breakfast potluck we will bring Breakfast Mash.
We are also planning to bring a fire pit and firewood, is this okay at Topsail?
Melissa - too excited to sleep-wish we could leave already

Melissa, somewhere in this thread someone has said that if you bring your own fire pit that a fire is ok. There are not fire rings provided by the park...
-Red, perpetuating the fire pit rumor...
No, seriously, they did say that bringing your own fire pit is ok...
-Red, worried he confused things with his signature tag...

Are they letting people in before the 3:00 check in if no one has that site? We sure would like to get there and have time to setup before the potluck tomorrow.
Thanks, Beth

Thanks for clearing that up Red. I think.
We will bring it, I'm a big believer in forgiveness over permission.
Melissa - choosing to believe the rumors, cause it's gonna be cold as a well diggers ... toes.

First time Canopenians
There are a number of you who are first time rally attendees. Sometimes new rally attendees ask what they are supposed to do during the rally. Other than choosing what events to participate in, the answer is just to walk around and talk to people. Of course, normal tourist activities are abundant in the area, but making friends and comparing Airstream notes seems to be the predominate activity. If you see a campfire going one evening, just crash the party. The fun factor is up to you!
Check out the beaches. The beaches of northwest Florida are absolutely beautiful, with sugar white sand and clear water. A lot of people visit the beach in Topsail Hill Preserve State Park (the state of Florida bought this beachfront tract to preserve it forever). From the campground, the beach is 3/4 of a mile away, so you might want to ride a bicycle (nice bike paths) or take the park's free tram.
Other than the beaches, Google Destin or San Destin for information on the area. There's a lot, I mean a lot, of shopping - you name the store, they probably have it.
Another thing to explore is the community of Seaside. It's about 30 minutes east of the campground and is a picturesque seaside town. The movie, The Truman Show with Jim Carrey, was filmed there. There are 5-6 Airstreams in the center of Seaside that are little restaurants.
Campfires
Topsail Hill Preserve State Park does not have fire pits or places to burn campfires. If you want a fire, you are allowed to bring a fire pit from home.

Woo Hoo - fire pit it is! Thanks Red.
Methinks I have missed some posts.
Melissa - going back to reread the thread, cause if I can't be at Canopener right now at least I can read about it

It has been our experience at Florida State Parks that you can check-in early, assuming that your site has been vacated.

As long as your assigned site is empty they have no problem letting you in. I already checked and mine is empty so I will be there tomorrow morning.
