Wow - that is a cool mount for the reading lamps! It looks like you turned the cylinder, and then cut it in half so you have one on each side of the lamp, right? Assuming that you cut it in half first, how the heck did you hold the half cylinders to cut the angles? Do you have a miter sled for your table saw?

Yup, turned the cylinder then I chop sawed it into two 1/2 segments. I then chopped the 45's using the same saw. If the piece was any smaller it would have required attaching a sacrificial piece or attaching to my table saw sled. I used double sided tape to hold them to the lamp base. Once the screws were installed, everything is held in place quite well.
My LEDs arrived tonight and they work great. They are much more focused than the standard bulbs plus they only pull .13 amps.

Vernon,
I really like your turned light holders! You da man!
I also like your ability to locate the solar panels remotely and at a good angle for the sun/latitude/etc. How long is your cord to the panels? One advantage of towing with a pickup is the ability to haul things like your solar panels in the bed of the truck. I also was trying to figure out how you would have enough real estate on Dolly's roof.

Steve,
For the cord I'm using 35' of #10-4 and doubling up the conductors. That equates to about #7 conductor which is good for my 120 W panel that runs at 30 volts. The panel will fit on the roof but I just am not seeing a good reason to mount it, plus it is kinda fun chasing the sun all day...

To quote Nathan Lanes character in 'The Birdcage',
'One does need a hint of color'...
I finally got around to painting the rear bumper and it just HAD to match the rims.

I appreciate the offer but it's too dang cold to drive north...I'm having it delivered south of here!
I placed my order thru Airstream of Mississippi, Ms. June B handles the parts department and worked the details including a call to ask me about savings on shipping. It's actually a savings for me to drive to the Mississippi coast (oh, darn) and spend the weekend eating seafood than have a home delivery.
So how am I going to get a 16' awning back to my house? Probably on the floor of a 34' airstream...

That's a great plan. It's stinkin' cold here & lots of snow. We loved the Gulf & I'm jealous! Camping as an excuse to pick up your awning is genius! Hope you get some nice, warm weather.
