Please no more PM's. A forums member bought this trailer. I apoligize for the misinformation about being a CA model. Just glad this old orphan found a new home.

I will fess up...it was me!

Thanks, Rog, for all your help facilitating the transaction for us.

We couldn't resist the chance to add a '54 Safari to the family. It is very similar to the trailer Rob just picked up in FL but without the original refrigerator and toilet. It does have the humphrey-style propane lamp over the dinette, though.

With regards to New Year resolutions and Airstreams...I don't make 'em cause I know I can't keep 'em.

So far, mostly all good. We finished cleaning it out recently and have found two areas with some punky flooring -- one in the kitchen under the stove and the second under one of the beds.

We've discovered the trailer doesn't seem to have an original water tank. Someone fashioned a replacement tank out of the body of a compressor!

We plan on restoring the kitchen and bath to its original set-up. The rear gauchos are twin beds but aren't original but the closets are in good shape. We've discovered there are three different types of tile flooring in the trailer with a shag carpet on top of all.

Ours versus yours

Our 54 Safari is 06039 - about 20 in front of yours. Looking forward to us trailering together one day with our pair of Safaris.

Pretty cool find! Glad to have another of these unique front kitchen/bath models on it's way to restoration! I can't wait until ours is ready to hit the road! I just love those "little birdies" that whisper in our ears!

Thanks Shari!

I have been following your blog with great interest. We may try your solution of the "non-shell off" floor replacement if we can get it to work!

We hope to finish up the floor install next weekend...so far so good! I'll post more pics as we go along this week...

It's working for us, no reason it wouldn't for you ~ let me know if you need any additional pointers.

I noticed in your photo that you don't have a curbside window to the right of the door (it would be over the kitchen counter area). Is that standard for 1956 model?

I believe, the front window in the kitchen was only there with "electric only" fridges. We have a gas/electric fridge and the interior vent cover (fridge vent stack on the roof, which you don't have) is in the location the window is on yours. We have two stacks on top - fridge on the right side of the door and heater on the left. Whereas you have the heater on the right.

Ours (two stacks > no window):

Yours (one stack > window):

Not 100% sure if this is the reason, but it seems to make sense...at least when being discussed with vintage buddies over margaritas! Is your fridge gas? The other possible explanation is that that the vent wasn't required by codes in '54 but it was by '56...but I've seen other '56s both with & without the window there and it seems like they have two stacks when there is no window and one when there is.

From Vintage Archives Photos (two stacks > no window):

%$ Safari - Flint

Not really, .... I was just hoping to hook up with the Owner so that we could compare notes and I could understand what we actually have. We recently purchased a 54 Safari from the other side of Michigan and we live near Flint.
