Converter upgrade question

I spoke with a rep at my local Airstream dealer and asked about upgrading my converter on a 2017 FC 23FB. He said there may be an issue with space depending on what converter I chose to use. Does anyone have experience with this - i.e., upgrading this model coach to a 3-stage converter in the same space under the refrigerator? Also, what converter is recommended for this? Thank you.

I'd get in contact with the guy at bestconverter.com he is/was a forum member and he can tell you exactly what you need, or at least he did for me a number of years ago when Airstream installed single stage converters.

Hi

The Victron MultiPlus units are very nice. You *will* need to fiddle a bit to find room for them ( = they will not fit in the same space as the old converter / charger ). Indeed neither the 2000 or 3000 would fit where the old inverter was mounted either. The mods involved were not insane, but modifications were required.

Most of the basic RV targeted converter / chargers will fit into the old converter "space" without a crazy lot of work involved. Only minor DIY skills required. There are a few drop in's. Just how well they perform long term is a bit unclear ....

This is the best advice you can get. Randy will not steer you wrong. I have used him to replace the converters in both RVs that I have owned. I replaced the converter in my 2017 FC 23FB with a Progressive Dynamics PD4655, but ask Randy what he recommends because there may be something better by now. (I took delivery of the replacement converter before I took delivery of the Airstream. I never even plugged in the factory converter.)

I have a different model but I believe Airstream still uses the same stock converter/charger. I too replaced mine with the Progressive Dynamics PD4655. It fits in the same space. They also have a new one that can be used as flooded/agm or lithium.

I've already switched to 6v AGM batteries and use solar panels when boon docking. But in-between travels I'd like to safely have the batteries charging without having to worry about over-charge which I've done in the past.

Thank you!

Call Randy at:
https://www.bestconverter.com/Boondo...rs-_c_154.html

You want the 4 stage; recommend either Boondocker or Progressive Dynamics. He can help you and is an AS owner. I have the Boondocker, but I have a 28'. My friend had a 23D, and he got the Progressive Dynamics. There are several documented installations, with pictures if you need that. Not too difficult and Randy can assist with questions, perhaps pictures.
