Thanks for the photos Brian. Maybe you should send the files to Airstream and say they can use them in their advertising for Airstream quality control.

That would make a great advertisement for Airstream. "Our designs are crummy, but a bunch of aficionados on the Internet will try to correct them."

Brian,
We found solution to the falling vents. Drove to the dealer Saturday and returned them.
Sorry to hear the lack of interest in this dilemma from Airstream. Our dealer acted as if this was all new to them.
They had a new Pendleton in the lot 100 Anniversary. Loaded with lots of Classics interior goodies.Hope the tape can handle the heat.
What's you summer adventure plans.

Note that 3M makes many variations of their double sided red tape in terms of temperature tolerance and, for a lack of a better word, load rating. Many trim pieces on cars and trucks are held on by some variation of that tape.
Lew Faber uses a tape on the roof to attach solar panels, but permanent might not be what is needed if there are air filters behind the registers that need to be changed or cleaned occasionally.

Hi Fred,
We thought about doing the same thing, but we got New Lucy's vents at Jackson Center. We kind of like having the new vents so that we can shut off some of the vents to get more air flow the either the living area or bedroom. We are keeping the OEM screen vents in case we ever want to go back to them.
As far as Lucy Adventures go, we have been trapped here at home since the first of the year doing a renovation on the house.
As soon as we can break free, we are planning to take Lucy over to the the Forgotten Coast for a week or two and explore the area thoroughly.
We are also planning to take a Maine trip later in the spring and a trip way out West this summer and into the fall.

The 3M tape that we used is called Extreme Mounting Tape. It appears to be of the type used to mount automotive trim pieces. I am hopping that it can handle the heat from Lucy's heat pump.
After I installed the vents yesterday, I tried pulling them down. I used reasonable force, and they held tight.

Yes. Had two fall. All replaced at Jackson Center under warranty. One has since fallen, but not many miles since replacement to know if really better or worse.

The new vent registers are just a poor design that was not well thought out or tested. On the other hand, the OEM screen vent registers that came on the 2015's were fastened with heavy metal spring clips. These were very difficult to remove and had absolutely no danger of falling out.

Been a while, been back to remodeling—A hooked knife may be a carpet knife. A nose cutter might be available at a plastic surgeon's office, but probably is something like a needle nose pliers with a cutter ends like a wire cutter.

Hi Gene. Glad to hear from you. I really didn't know what kind of cutting tools the guy from Airstream was talking about.
I was able to trim back the insulation in one of the vents with a box cutter. Since there was no improvement in the clips holding, I figured the type of cutting tool was a moot point.

Brian,
I'm sorry that you are having all of these problems with those vents. As you may recall, I waited until you had them installed at JC before I ordered ours. My dealer installed ours, I went back and ground the aluminum tab back, and reinstalled them. I have yet to have one fall in the rear of our 27FB. I only installed 6 in the lounge /kitchen. I tow with an F250 and use a ProPride hitch.
It really unfortunate that this is happening, I wonder if the vents themselves could be defective or from a bad run.
Best of luck.

We are towing New Lucy with a one ton Silverado and a Hensley. The vents that we have are from Jackson Center in April of 2015. These are probably some of the first of the new ones.

We are considering upgrading to Michelin LTX. I have read many posts about going with 16" tires/wheels. Why not just put 15" Michelins on existing 15" wheels?

The 15" Michelin LT's are in use by many here on the Forums. I have chosen to use the 16" Michelins because it is a 10 ply (load range E) tire with a significantly higher load rating.

We made the same decision. It just made more sense to go with the higher ply and load rating.
Cheers

New Lucy is now sporting LED lighting around each of her street side windows.

Also, a number of comments in various threads have indicated that the selection of available 15" Michelin tires is shrinking, due to the industry moving to 16" wheels in general. If you can find the 15" tire you want, with the correct load and speed ratings, go for it . . .
