First Time Airstream Buyer - Need Help

I'm really interested in purchasing an 1979 Airstream Argosy. Purchase price is $9,500. Everything has been replaced or upgraded except cosmetics. Its in great condition and its been repainted. When I look up average retail on NADA it says $2,080. Really hard to gage the correct value of it. Do you think this is a good deal?

NADA doesn't have a clue on the value when it comes to travel trailers.
What length is it?

You have to do your own research by watching your market area. Your description sounds like its a fair deal, start pricing out all the new or replaced items and they add up fast. It's been said here and I agree that you want to find the best trailer you can afford.
Too bad I don't take my own advise though and usually end up with the cheapest one I can find that needs the most work. LOL

Thank you for your responses. Its 27ft. The PO kept a blog of all the work he has done on it with pictures. I have been looking for a long time and the same models seem to go between $6,000 and $12,000. Is it easy to get these older models appraised accurately for insurance purposes?

NADA is or has been out of touch with real market prices. The numbers they say are usually very low. Getting insurance might be hard, I would certainly take lots of pictures and send them your your agent or insurance company. Getting full replacement coverage might not happen. I would certainly shop around. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I will certainly make sure i can find appropriate coverage. Anyone out there have further advice on getting appropriate coverage? Also, what would be your Number One advice for a brand new airstream owner who is going down the road of renovation?

Consider the details of what it means when "everything is replaced or upgraded" look at the big ticket items. Like refrigarator, axles, water heater, air conditioner, furnace, sub floor., frame. If that's all good you got a good deal!

Hi

On any RV past 7 years old, if it's in good shape, valuation via NADA is nonsense. Classic cars have the same issues. There are appraisal processes and specialist insurance outfits that help out on this stuff.

Hi lpetrocelli, you may want to consider having it inspected by someone knowledgeable if you have an AS dealer not so far you may be able to have someone come out they can check for damage that may not be obvious. Good Luck and keep in touch.
