segment protectors / Rock Guard protection
Covers or coatings for Rock Guards. I have searched and not found an answer for my specific question. We just sold 1992 29' Excella and we are now becoming proud owners of a 2004 28' Classic that is in Like New Condition. What would it do to the future value of the unit if I had the front rock guards coated with the material that is used to coat pickup beds? Or, is there rock guard covers out there that can be attached when traveling to protect the rock guards. Yes, I know, they call them rock guards for a reason but have seen so many that look like they have been shot with a shotgun and it seems it would be so easy to have some type of covering over them to stop the dings and dents.
Any suggestions or advice will be gratefully considered. Pick up the 2004 in a couple of weeks.

You can carefully roll out dings that you get in your guards. I did that this year. They are good to go for another 5 years....then buy new ones. That is what they are for. I can't imagine running for 7 - 10 years with some ugly covering on the stainless guards. Temporary covers fro an Alaska trip...that's another story.

Minor point of order -- the stainless steel lower front guards are called segment protectors (your guess is as good as mine). Rock guard is what Airstream calls the front sunglasses that protect the panoramic windows.

 Hi, Even protected for my Alaska trip, I got some dings, but could have been much worse. The rock guards are on non-panaramic windows too.

'dings' are just beauty marks, and need to be honoured, IMHO. They show that you are actually using the TT, and not making it into a shrine.
To put a "protective cover" on the segment protectors seems redundant, at least to me.

Hi, you're right, but replacement segment protectors aren't cheap either. Too many beauty marks and they start to look ugly and should be replaced. [my opinion]

Thanks to everyone for their in-put. Looks like the general feeling is don't put anything on the the "segment protectors." Since I am new to this Airstream stuff, I thought they were rock guards but we all figured out what I was talking about. Think I will get a bunch of these little "bullet hole" stickers and put them on the dings when I get them in the segment protectors, will that work.

Check with some auto accessory and some detailing shops for the clear vinyl sheeting that they sell to put on the front edge of car hoods. This is the new way to do what the old vinyl bras used to do - protect. It may help with light impacts, but large rocks are gonna hurt no matter what you do.

Where did you get this rockguard? It appears to be straight without a curve along the sides.

I have a pair of salvage segment protectors that have a couple of big dents. They don't pop out on stainless near as easy as aluminum. Any suggestions about getting them out?
By the way I did not get the segment protectors so much for protection as to cover over existing dents in my front corner segments.
